Last Wednesday, while Kiwi Farms was still in a coma, many people (most of them conservatives) lost their goddamn minds over a 30-second date announcement.

The video has nearly 300,000 dislikes, but it's also the second most-viewed "date announcement" for Netflix with 2.4 million views.

/pol/ and alt-righters claim that this show was promoting "white genocide." They decided to delete their Netflix accounts because of this video.

They even keep posting writer Jack Moore and his tweet saying "Fuck White People!", which was posted after Election Night.

The series is actually based on a 2014 indie film of the same name, which apparently mocks all sides of the race debate, not just one.

The writer-director of that film Justin Simien says that the series won't be about white guilt and all of that stuff.

This is funny to me because you have people who want to spread freedom of speech and to prevent race-baiting. And yet they want to cancel their subscriptions over a TV show with a intentionally provocative name because it promotes white genocide. This show probably would've been entirely ignored if they kept their mouths shut and kept celebrating that Trump's the president.

Ten episodes...I don't know how badly they think we need things spelled out, but damn. Wasn't the film enough? It was pretty good, they need to stop doing this shit. Cinematic necromancy is what it is.

Something is risky, but it proves to be good, so they can't just leave it be. It's like scratching a scab. It might feel good in the moment, but in the end, you're just going to bleed and possibly get an infection, anyway.

Reading this felt like when I read that "Green Eggs and Ham" was going to be adapted into a mini series, too.

Like every episode, the dog-man rejects green eggs and ham somewhere, or with something, then during the epic finale, he discovers that YES, he DOES like green eggs and ham! Fucking ridiculous.

A ruse, apparently because the movie it's based on is actually about looking at different arguments through different people. The girl in that date announcement actually found herself to be the racist in the movie.

Also, the show is being produced by Lionsgate; Netflix is only distributing this.

The movie received popularity back in 2014, earning a Special Jury prize at Sundance.

I honestly would worry more about this if I didn't know the movie existed last year.

In the film, the 'dear white people' girl is an idealistic but naive character - she's not full on mocked but she's kind of being mocked. A lot of the characters are being mocked.

It's not a great film but it's certainly not anti-white. It has a go at whites but blacks get it too.

I doubt the tv show would be as intelligent or as nuanced as a lot of the writers seem to have not understood the film and think it's literally a letter they have to write to white people
