I was pretty young when this decline happened. I joined tumblr first in the early 2010s and was inside a little bubble of friends chatting about the things that young teens generally talk about and meeting new people who also liked these things. I didn't notice the creeping morality brigade coming in and starting drama until like, 2013-2014? I do know it was before that whole GamerGate shit happened and the neckbeards of 4chan and reddit (and some on tumblr) lead an autistic uprising that resulted in one of the biggest lolcow factories ever witnessed. This was before that, and lead up to that period of intensity.
