This entire thread is giving me an urge to watch the whole series back to back.
I hate to say it, but the sequels are better than the first film since they're so bad they're good. I laughed really hard at points in the 3rd and 4th movies. I love my schlock, and the sequels fill me with plenty of that.
The remake looks pretty bad though, and people complaining about it are wasting breath since it'll likely bomb like a bunch of movies this year.
I'm hoping this will be kinda like Death Sentence, I like the message of that one because the main character starts off being a badass vigilante but in doing his vigilante stuff, actually ruins his life and destroys his family, in his pursuit of revenge. But then again trailers can be misleading as hell, so we'll see.
It's the whole "white savior" thing. Which is interesting since SJWs are always bitching about how whites should "do the heavy lifting" for their causes and help them out when they demand it.
In a way, I can see why this film could be a balm. We live in an era where you can get away with rioting and holding places hostage as long as you're part of the right political party, can sexually assault/harass others and have your naysayers be called bigots depending on your religion and get off easy on crimes or society's expectations as long as you have a good enough sob story. Anyone who complains is told to pretty much suck it up.
Not to mention that men these days aren't allowed to be tough, macho, driven, competitive and manly or they're considered "toxic" and that there is no real good in any of these traits. Now you have a guy who is what they despise while not being a total villain or strawman.

The harm would be random internet users being offended because this remake is fascist and is about a white guy who will shoot black people, never mind the fact it's just a remake of a film about an architect killing random muggers. Yeah, they could say the alt-right loves it but that's just a self-fulfilling prophecy because they themselves are hating it, which in turn leads to the alt-right liking it simply out of spite.
When I watched the trailer, all I thought was that it looked like a mediocre remake to a gritty, grounded drama. It didn't look all that interesting to me, and the use of AC/DC was jarring (I love AC/DC, but they were the exact wrong thing for the trailer). I thought it would be one of those movies that would come and go and nobody would care besides those looking into the series as a whole.
And then I saw it was trending on Facebook and that Twitter was calling it "alt-right."
So I guess its existence is partially justified, if only to offend those perpetually offended morons on Twitter.
