Of course, he had never consented at all; it was discovered the lady made it all up when they attempted to interrogate the man without her around and nothing resembling the sorts of messages she claimed to have received appeared. She was arrested.
What I'm trying to get at is, this is not fucking fine and I don't know how we haven't locked these people up yet.
The parents doing this sort of sick shit (both this parent and Debi) can be explained by them having the classic lolcow traits of narcissism and inability to consider the consequences of their actions, along with a lack of empathy. What I don't get is why people other than the parents are defending this and even advertising it as if it were a good thing.
How is that even possible? Where I live, the intellectually disabled can't even sign contracts or get legally married. Is the kid high functioning enough to decide, or what? They look like 15 at best, so I'm guessing it's the mom deciding for the kid ?
I don't know jack shit about laws on that, so I'm just really confused.

It's because in some countries parents can decide on medical treatment for young people up to 18 with little or no input from the kid and conversely they can approve non-essential treatment to satisfy a kid's whim.
One of the reasons the approval of the Family Court is required for trans teens to commence hormones here (and was previously required to commence puberty blockers) is because back in the day disabled kids were routinely sterilised without regard to the severity of the disability or the extremity of the procedure used. Trans advocates want that requirement removed, which will leave the disabled vulnerable once again.
This was the first thing that came to mind when I read about the trans down syndrome kid.

Long story short, Stubblefield was using a discredited intervention known as Facilitated Communication to 'communicate with' a profoundly disabled man. She did this with the full knowledge and support of his family, who had sought her out in the hope she could help him - right up until the point she told his family they were totally in love, at which point they figured out she was a crazy person. Stubblefield, like Debi Jackson, was also neck-deep in a slough of - apparently well-intentioned, at least before she inserted her creepy lady boner into the equation - socjus stupid that completely blinded her to the reality of the situation. Treating the profoundly disabled as if they're just like everyone else really and all it takes is the correct right-on, super-special SJW to unlock their true self ignores the very real and painfully-bloody-obvious fact that actually they aren't, and all those totally oppressive and infantilising rules and regulations are actually there to protect them from crazies and predators. The real kicker is that Anna Stubblefield was a tenured Professor of Ethics and of all people should have been expected to know better.
The parallels aren't exact, but they're similar - Debi Jackson and her ilk seem to love presenting themselves as Trans Whisperers who are capable of divining the true desires of very young children because shut up, that's why. The sad thing is that this is not even remotely illegal. Stubblefield wasn't caught out because she was using bullshit pseudoscience methods to back up her claim that she totally knew what a nonverbal disabled man wanted, to the extent she was taking him on the lecture circuit and discussing his taste in wine, she was caught out because she raped him and told his family she did it out of love. Sadly, not only is it not against the law to tell your four-year-old son he's a girl because he picked up a Barbie once, it's not even considered awful parenting. No, it's totally fashionable and immediately elevates you from a boring suburban mom to a loud and proud SJW activist who speaks from experience, and anyone who even suggests this might not be in the child's best interests is a transphobe.

Make it illegal that parents can subject kids to bodily modification unless really necessary (life in danger etc), because holy shit this is going all downway.
The problem is the wider consequences. There are situations in which it's highly desirable to use these drugs and it's the more ethical thing to do even though the child's life is not at risk in the conventional sense.
You do not want 2 and 4 years old going through precocious puberty because of the implications for their growth, and in slightly older children the lack of maturity to deal with adolescence is an issue. You do want the option of inhibiting the development of sexual urges and suppressing fertility in profoundly disabled children who will never be able to consent to sex or meaningfully experience pregnancy or parenthood - a side effect of that will be restricting growth and that makes it ethically messy.
So yeah, it's somewhat ironic that they want to overturn protections which were put in place primarily to protect vulnerable children and prevent parents from being able to make irreversible decisions without external scrutiny.
If so-called "conversion therapy," which attempts to force a sexual orientation onto a child, is abusive and quackery then this bullshit, which causes actual permanent physical damage, is even more so.
