It's a cesspool. Every thread is a honeypot and control volleys back and forth between serious idiots and ironic edgelords. It's difficult to have an actual conversation about political matters there. Unless it's supposed to be Inner Circle-lite, it needs tighter moderation than it currently does.

Some of that is simply going to be the nature of anything that takes a political, religious, or otherwise highly debated subject matter. If your post is not seen as a middle of the road moderate response you will generate butthurt, bait posts, and ironic gags. As well as assburglars who do take those views seriously.

It would waste staff's time to constantly distinguish extreme views from mere parodies of such. 'Deep Thoughts' is not one of the main focuses of this site so I would have no qualms about continuing the currently small amount of staff interference. Lolcow discussion would be different.
Honestly think it is best run like an imageboard with as little deletions made as possible. It's like our own /pol/. The 'Are certain cultures better?' thread dissolved down to the point of posting Polandball comics and it was glorious. Hellblazer wasted his night trying to delete certain posts from it which was a complete lost cause.

So I opt for keeping it really loose, or we axe the whole board in order to merge it with Off-Topic.

Also, asking for a member to be banned here within a public subboard isn't the wisest move

I wouldn't mind if it got the axe or if it was merged with Events and News.

You're right though, Glaive. It's not really worth it to expend a lot of resources on that board in the first place.

Even with thread titles such as "What are your fetishes"...? I don't think you really need to go so far as to try to sift through the more ambiguous ones, but you could probably delete the more obvious bait threads. Nothing of value would be lost.

I think if a deep thoughts thread is a clear and obvious honeypot like "Do you think autistics should be allowed to express themselves" or something that's clearly nonsense like that it should be moved out of Deep thoughts and put into Inner circle.

People have been using Deep thoughts as a dumping ground for shitposting in recent months. It really needs to be cleaned up and given more scrutiny. I remember Niachu did a really good job at doing that but since her absence it's been turned into a cesspit.

I think Deep Thoughts was a nice idea, but it's probably best to shut it down and merge the threads with Off Topic. It's clearly failed as a place for more serious discussion, and that was the only thing that differentiated it from OT in the first place.

I'd do it, but the volume of shitposting these days makes it unfeasible. Baitposting is getting out of control and coating the whole forum with shit, but is most apparent in Deep Thoughts.
