Part of me wishes I've played the original and part of me is glad I haven't and can instead play the remake.
part of me wishes i've played the original and part of me also wishes i could play the remake but i'm not buying sony's new toaster.
I'll get one eventually if I don't get one in the launch window and when I do I look forward to playing the Demon's Souls remake.

If you have a PC with a fast processor there's a PS3 emulator that runs the game fairly well (there are minor graphical and sound issues and sometimes some slowdown).
The emulator:
