Well Dagon was pretty bad, but I can see some influence there. Probably they watched it and decided to steal some elements from it. I won't spoil the ending if you feel like watching it. But it is set in Spain, there's a cult, the cult wears human skin but underneath they're deformed monsters, and there's a flashback showing how the cult supplanted the church and brought wealth to the fishing town. It goes nuts in like the last 10 minutes.

Resident Evil's "social commentary" is borrowed from Return of the Living Dead or Aliens, and a case could be made for either since 2 borrows heavily from Aliens and Code Veronica flat out rips off Tarman. Obviously, yes, I like an 80 year old entertainment franchise. I am not spending any time analyzing it, because The Shadow was always pretty up-front about the conspiracies hatched by inscrutable Chinamen.

Some of its ideas:

- the church cult thing has nothing to do with Christianity because Spanish Jews only pretended to be Christians
- the main villain is based on real people who claimed to be Jewish messiahs
- Leon and Ashley represent America compromised by Zionist / Jewish influence (the parasite)
