This may sound like a strange question, but I have reason for asking it and bringing it up for discussion. I am sure most of not all of us remember the revelation of the gal-pals and how they didn't consider Chris their friend in the way he considered them theirs.
We learned that the gal-pals helped to prevent some of the bullying, so good for them. They obviously felt bad for Chris but did they ever try to teach Chris to avoid behavior which might encourage bullying? Normally for a special needs student, a Sped teacher would be in charge of this (besides parents, but we know what a shitty job Borb did in teaching their son social graces) and a child might receive instruction from an adult, but interaction with peers is what really reinforces what kind of behavior is acceptable/viewed favorably.
The gal-pals let him hang around them at lunch and stuff and were aware of his bullying, so did they ever attempt to teach him social cues, telling him that something he said was not nice and/or inappropriate, this or that will help the bullies ignore him, etc? I know this was not actually their job, but did they try even a bit?
