Did Chris' gal-pals ever try to help him behave better? -

This may sound like a strange question, but I have reason for asking it and bringing it up for discussion. I am sure most of not all of us remember the revelation of the gal-pals and how they didn't consider Chris their friend in the way he considered them theirs.

We learned that the gal-pals helped to prevent some of the bullying, so good for them. They obviously felt bad for Chris but did they ever try to teach Chris to avoid behavior which might encourage bullying? Normally for a special needs student, a Sped teacher would be in charge of this (besides parents, but we know what a shitty job Borb did in teaching their son social graces) and a child might receive instruction from an adult, but interaction with peers is what really reinforces what kind of behavior is acceptable/viewed favorably.

The gal-pals let him hang around them at lunch and stuff and were aware of his bullying, so did they ever attempt to teach him social cues, telling him that something he said was not nice and/or inappropriate, this or that will help the bullies ignore him, etc? I know this was not actually their job, but did they try even a bit?

Without having any real data to go on, I would guess yes. I remember a few cases in my school years where a girl who had her shit together looked out for a clumsy male doofus of a student. I point out the sex of each student because it does seem to be a pattern-- there must be something in many school-age girls that makes them enjoy being a role model. Sometimes this was done at the prompting of a teacher, sometimes it just kind of developed on its own. It was called "peer coaching" or something like that.

If they were willing to take him on as a pity friend, I'm inclined to think they would have given him advice too. However, it's also likely that Chris took advice from them as seriously as he's taken advice from anyone else in his life.

Well they did give him body language cues and facial expressions to convey their non spoken feelings. This is obvious from the photos:

How many of the girls here look as though they actually want to have their photo taken by Chris? They're all looking away from the camera and the only one not doing so seems to be in mid sentence: "Chris, we're not ready for a photograph!"

There's a photo of him having lunch with 2 of them, and the look on their face is total nonamusement. Personally, I've no clue if any of these girls ever tried to verbally tell him to shape up or not be an ass, but you can see it written all over their faces in every single photo Chris took of or with them. Chris, being :stupid:, is not able to pick up on this. He thinks they're smiling!

You're reading into this way too much.

Chris deludes himself all on his own. It doesn't matter what anyone tells him. When he gets back in front of the TV and it shows him scenarios of pretty girls asking the shy boy out to the school dance, he takes it as fact that it happens at least half of the time, therefore half the girls at school will probably ask him out. Autism's a bitch.

I don't know how necessary it was. If you were a friend of Chris what "bad behaviour" would you get on him for?

1. Get a job/life together.
-Back then he was a high school student in good standing. Pretty acceptable.
2. Stop using such ridiculous sweetheart search methods.
-The sweet heart search hadn't started.
3. Don't post personal things publicly on the internet.
- Again, not an issue.

I am sure he was fairly boring and probably occasionally lost his temper, but I don't think it was the sort of thing that would have made the gal-pals intervene. Other than saying "Don't let the bullies get to you, Chris", they probably just let him be him, and probably thought he was doing ok, considering his disability.

No. In the galpal email that was leaked not too long ago, their job was just to act as babysitters for him and to make him feel as if he had a few friends in school, like a buddy system. They might have inadvertently, inactively kept him in line, but as far as actually teaching him to behave like a normal human being, I don't think they would have, let alone having succeeded.

I have had experience with people similar to this. I nod and occasionally react with a, "um-hmm." Or even a, "Wow. Tell me more." I do my best to deal until I can get away from them. I find it hard to find bad behavior because I am too busy looking out for me and looking for an exit.

They were just girls that Chris saw every other day for maybe 30 min to an hour. He didn't really even know them. I doubt very much that they had the time or the inclination to help him beyond letting him hide from the bullies at their table.

I'm sure it doesn't even matter because people like Rocky have been trying to help him for years now, and he's resistant to any change. He only interacted with these girls briefly for a couple years of his life so they probably don't have that much of a significant impact other than spank bank material.

I don't think they thought about him enough to care.

When I was in school, there were a number of neckbeards and weirdos who behaved kind of strangely. But generally they were never hostile or problem-causing to anyone else, so mostly people were just polite to them when need be and ignored them otherwise.

Had people like that growing up too. We would listen to them and make fun of them after they left.

It's doubtful that there were really any situation that would have caused Chris to act out and trigger them to try and correct any negative behaviour. Remember, at this stage in his life, Chris was content to just sit with them and play with his Pogeymans, he literally didn't want to do anything else. It would appear that by this point, the school had simply decided it wasn't worth the trouble to actually educate him and just let him please himself, and as long as Chris is allowed to do what he wants, he's perfectly placid.
It's only later on when he was expected to behave like an adult (PVCC, The Gameplace) or his needs became more exotic (fuck Megan) that he truly started to evolve into the monster we see today. For the most part, Chris only really tard rages when you put roadblocks between him and his desires.

The question is a little like a teen movie reality. I remember being bullied in middle school, then having a growth spurt, beating a few people up and that ending by the time I hit 8th grade. After that, I did try to protect people who were being bullied if it happened in front of me.

But I never thought to appoint myself some kind of mentor or attitude-adjuster. Nearly all teenage kids are usually bursting with their own anxieties and insecurities for that. Especially girls.
