Did Chris set up his vidya all by himself? -

I'm not talking about his current stuff like his iPhone, but older stuff like his PS2 or PSTriple. He had a really nice TV in his room, acquired before Bob died. I'm wondering if he got that all set up by himself, or if he had Bob or a technician help him. Chris has displayed amazing stupidity and naivete at times, such as accidentally wiping the hard drive of his PS3 (if I remember correctly) so I was wondering if he has any capability to assemble an entertainment system on his lonesome. And if he actually does, why not just move the TV/PS3 to the room he is sharing with Barb since she doesn't like him going to his room anymore.

Speakiung of later vidya, I imagine that a iPhone is relatively easy to set up (I wouldn't know as I don't own any Apple products) but the monthly fees for it must be pricey since we know he uses the Internet and other stuff on it, and then add that to the Internet he has at home (if he still has it) and that would really add up. How much would an iPhone cost per month?

Well we must remember, moving around all those systems, and cords for us is nothing, but for Chris it would be a Herculean challenge. I'm guessing he uses his tug boat money to hire some workers to set the stuff up, while he lays back and eats a Hungry man frozen dinner.
Ok that answer wasn't serious, Chris knows how to hook up Vidya, you would have to be really mentally impaired to not understand how to hook up a video game system. Putting together an entertainment system couldn't be that hard for Chris, he isn't paralyzed.

Bob probably helped with the early Nintendo and Sega.
I have an iPhone 4 and set up is easy as pie. Go to the App Store button right on the home screen, search what you want, hit install and enter your password. Chris may be buying up iTunes gift cards or may have charges go directly to a credit card. Either way, he's not smart with his credit.
If he needs wifi to use the Internet he has no data plan, since he has no need to call or text anyone but :snorlax: , he's probably running bare bones coverage plan per month, it's just a nice phone.

Oh yeah when he was a kid definitely, Bob hooked the stuff up, Chris had a Commodore didn't he once say?

Well, a modern system only requires to plugs, the power cable and the HDMI cable. So Chris would have to be beyond fucking retarded to require someone to install that for him

I dunno man, I have the worst trouble getting my electronics to sync up to my tv sometimes. Although, he probably watches all his media on his ps triple, and probably doesn't have a direct tv box to mess with.

Yeah, but I'm talking about adulthood. When I was a kid I learned how to plug in NES, SNES, Sega, and Nintendo 64. Not really that hard since TVs were simpler back then and you just had to plug in 2 or 3 nodes to the television. I don't own any of the newer systems, but it's not hard to figure that the consoles that have internet require more plugs and cords and shit (because even if they're wireless, you still need to have Internet/modem/wifi set up) I just wondered if Chris put together the whole TV/PSTriple thing all on his own, and if they still have Internet at home or if chris is only using internet via his apple.

I remember reading that he does know some stuff about computers. Even if he is a complete buffoon in other areas of life, he apparently knew a good bit about computers. Of course he doesn't use this knowledge for anything important now.

Again its not hard. The HDMI covers video and audio and is a different shape then other ports and connecting to wireless is automated, the system will scan for a signal, lock onto it and try to connect. Honestly, it is simpler then ever.

Yeah, setting up a new console and/or new TV set is generally easy as pie just so long as you are able to recognize shapes and colors at a kindergarten level. But even if it wasn't, one thing I have noticed about Chris is that if it is something that would immediately benefit him (ie, instant entertainment via TV and Vidya), he will attempt to move mountains to get it done. The rest of the time, he will be willfully ignorant.

As for the second question, I wouldn't know since I'm one of the last stragglers that refuses to buy a smartphone until I NEED to buy a smartphone (and when I do, it isn't going to be an Apple). But common sense would dictate that it probably does cost a good chunk of his tugboat to maintain. Honestly, I wouldn't be too surprised if he and Barb are running a lot on credit nowadays.

Makes me wonder what would have happened if Bob encouraged Chris to take computer science or whatever it is that computer technicians need, instead of a CADD.

I don't have a smartphone either, and I also refuse to get one, my lifestyle does not really call for one since I have Internet/laptop at home and my cellphone is one of these prepaid ones which is only 7 bucks per month and has only talk and text. I honestly see no need to pay for two Internet connections.

Psssh. You need two fingers to screw in a coaxial cord. And while I'm sure most gamers liked RCA connectors better, the RF Modulator method was more common and better in my opinion.

He wouldn't make it. Academically-rigorous computer science study is tough, as it is very close to mathematics and you work on solving very complicated, computationally-intense problems you don't really encounter often in real-world create/update/retrieve/delete stuff.

Chris wouldn't make this or any other STEM course because it requires years of work and dedication, two concepts that are fundamentally alien to him. After busting my own ass in college (we're talking spending upwards of 12 hours a day in the library near finals week) I made it through with a 3.45, which is actually kind of mediocre. You have to remember that, even with a brain-dead easy associates degree in CADD, Chris took three times as long to finally complete it.

I haven't had a console since PS2 but I'm sure Chris set up his own gear. Everything is pretty much color coded and most of the time the vidya companies keep things really simple anyway.

Vidya is the most important thing to him so he'll figure it out.

Yup. PS3 is the easiest console I've ever set up. HDMI is much simpler than composite cables.

Actually, this is the sort of stuff I expect Chris to know about, vidya is his life and the knowledge will have come naturally to him over time.

He can't play his vidya without hooking it up, so he learns to hook it up; simples.

well normally this is pure fact, the thing is Christian is always an exception to the rules. if you remember his win ratio on. Modnation racers was less than .250 (the to be fair I'm not sure if the Wins counted for being in first or first to third), and he had over 1000+ races into it. if I were to speculate he doesn't even learn the fundamentals of the game he plays, he just does whatever is convenient for him and thanks he can Excel like that

Wow, I learned quite a few new things from what people said in this thread (since the newest console I've ever hooked up was a n64) so thanks, guys :)

Don't know how things were in America, but RF modulators we a royal pain in the ass here in PAL land. You had to tune the TV to the correct channel. Of course, laws of the universe state that the kids can only play games on the old TV. The one without automatic tuning. Prepare for looots and lots of boring tweaking of knobs.

But when you used a RCA/composite cable, the shitty old VCR plugged into the aforementioned shitty old TV was already properly plugged into the TV and on the correct channel, and had a composite video input. It worked instantly. And since it's chained, no need to mess around with cables all the time. And as an additional bonus, you could record your games!

Things got a little better at SCART era - everything went in one cable. But the connectors kinda sucked. Bulky yet flimsy, and almost impossible to plug in blindly.
