Did you ever need to hide your pet from your Landlord? - or maintenance

So I never told my landlord I have a dog because they were going to charge an extra $25/month. Well I needed maintenance to come in to fix something but I had dog here so I devised a plan.

Really all I did was keep an eye out on the maintenance golf carts and when I saw them come near I had my bag, keys, and leash ready to leave. Once that was successful I just went to the dog park for an hour and came back.

So does anyone have a story like that?

Had my cat in an apartment a while back without paying the deposit and extra rent. Never had maintenance come in or anything, so no big deal. When I moved out, they called me and said I wasn't getting my security deposit back because they "could tell" I had a cat. I pretty much just boldfaced lied and said I didn't, and they backed down pretty quick.

Since then, I've always paid the pet fee. It's not worth the hassle to keep the lie going.

Sounds like you got away with it though, so kudos.

I knew some girls in college who were keeping a cat in their dorm room. One of them would leave with it if they knew someone from the school was coming. They managed to pull it off and one of them took it with them at the end of the year.

I thought this thread was about places where you aren't allowed to have pets. However, i quickly learned this is not the case. This thread is about MONEY plain and simple!

If a place didn't allow pets at all then yeah I would fully support keeping the pet anyway and lying. But your just doing it for money reasons. That is less honorable.

Just pay $100 for one of those ESA certifications online then your landlord has to let you have it with no extra fees.

we moved into a place and got a dog but didn't tell the landlord. one day they came to fix the air con and by then we had also started fostering a mean ol' rotweiller the maintenance man was terrified of. a few months later, they decided they didn't want to lease to pet owners anymore and so didn't let us renew our lease. then, we found a better place to live. the end.

All you need to do is say that you are looking after it for a friend/family member while they are away on a work trip and they will leave it

I actually help maintain a couple rentals and people with pets are the absolute fuckin worse

the reason why we charge extra for pets like dogs/cats is that like 99% of them just let their fuckin beasts trash the house

We had this one owner who also hide the fact he had a dog (said he was just "watching" it for his mother) and that fuckin mutt ruined a thousand dollars worth of carpeting

Fam rent is high enough already for just a studio and the landlord charges disabled people for reserved parking and there aren't any elevators or a/c.

if you have the money go for it but I'm not giving money to a company that charges people with disabilities for a small parking spot.

19 year old me did way more destruction to an apartment than any mere dog

Also that's what security deposits are for

The landlord thought about that and strictly prohibits taking care of other people's pets, it's in my lease.

This is why you train doggos and keep them away from the carpet areas until they're trained. Also you make sure you have proper cleaning supplies. It's not the dog, it's the shitty pet owner. I was lucky my dog was already potty trained when I adopted her.
But I do understand that at some point someone will have to fix my shitty apartment and the less work on that unit the better.

We did have a shelf full of piss jugs in the basement but that was my other roommate who was too lazy to walk up a flight of stairs. I did spill bongwater all over the place though and once kicked a door down because I thought someone OD'd there in a party but actually it was my roommate puking

This place gives a "discount" for reserved parking for Disabled people, and the parking here sucks. So I doubt they will let my dog stay for no extra charge.

Aren't these reasons to sue?

Uhh.. I know in most states (all states??) they are REQUIRED to provide disabled parking spots.. I have never, EVER heard of even the scummiest landlords making them pay for those spots.
