The Updates subforum, if you're even aware it exists, was originally intended to be a restricted location to discuss Chris updates. Topic creation was restricted to staffers, and all replies were moderated.

It appears to have fallen into disuse, so I'm wondering if it's been made redundant by the mainline CWC forum. Did you find Updates useful? Should we reinvigorate it, or remove it?

It's just been for the same posts, very redundant to have.

I'd say remove it. I think it was a good idea in theory, but at the end of the day this forum came into existence because Chris is a weirdo and people want to comment on his shenanigans, so they're going to post more in threads where they don't have to worry about whether or not their posts meet some undisclosed standard.

I'd say a general lolcow updates thread or whatever. Some fokes complain about the other posts and their inability to not read them distracts from the info they are looking for. It could be useful for archiving and records purposes especially when the person may be working on a wiki article

That's great it starts with an earthquake.

It's pretty useless because only staffers can update it and they stopped a long time ago.

It only made sense to keep around when skyraider and Thetan were still posting like 15 updates a day.

It's useful as an easy means of reading old updates. If you were, say, writing an article on the CWCki you probably wouldn't want to pick through dozens of 10-page threads to get information when updates are presented in a much more intuitive fashion in the appropriate subforum.
That being said, I don't believe I have ever seen a post within that subforum not made by staff. I genuinely thought it existed purely for archival purposes and regular users weren't allowed to use it up until now.

Not really, it can be useful if you're looking for a specific update during that period, but it hasn't been updated for a while, or really utilized.

I do believe for minor updates that tend to clog up the main forum, like "Chris likes a status" (There hasn't been one as far as I know of something as minor as this, but I hope you get the idea) then an updates forum would be a good idea, if they were separated from the main forum. Obviously, you would need to come up with some sort of criteria of what should go or be moved to the updates forum, and what content should be in the main forum.

I also wouldn't really want the "Updates" subforum if utilized, to be viewed as a "Chris-themed" spergatory. Just a forum for minor updates, that don't have a lot of content that could be utilized, but could still be useful to archive.

It was a useful place to catch up on Chris content without the cancerous A-Logging and samefagging which will never be exorcised from Disco.

^^^ Seconded. I dont even go in CWCs subforum without it now. It's too difficult to find what I'd want to read without it.

I found the update subforum was useful when it was a separate forum, but it fell by the wayside after the featured thread feature was introduced and the updates became a subforum.

As it is, I would knock it on the head.

Perhaps expand it to more members who are able to post threads in there.

Perhaps use a script that takes threads that start with a date and upload the first post into a thread?

The best way I think to do it would be for someone to maintain monthly threads. So each month a new thread would be made, relevant updates (videos, FB posts, etc) would be added as a post each, and it would only have the updates themselves without any discussion at all. Would keep things archived in a much more useful format.

I like that idea! Consolidates updates without being overwhelming.
