Was watching zombie movies and chatting in the thread for those until I switched to a some 70s/80s action movies. Specifically the early Dirty Harry and death wish movies and so I got the idea to start a discussion thread for them.

Talk about any action movie from any era and any sub genre (post apocalyptic, buddy cop, war, even Comedy)

Special thanks to @Syaoran Li for the inspiration to start this thread

Point Break (1991) with Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves. Easily one of my favorite action movies I seen when I was a teenager, and it's a movie I rewatch every year as a tradition, usually during the summertime. It's about a former football quarterback now FBI agent Johnny Utah (Reeves) who goes undercover in a surfing/adrenaline junkie group led by Bodhi (Swayze), who's suspected of being the Ex-Presidents, a bank robbing gang who wear president masks during the robberies. It's a great bro movie to watch, Reeves and Swayze are great together, although this is still when Reeves wasn't that good of an actor yet, and when he started doing more serious film roles after Bill and Ted.

It also features one of the best foot chases in movies IMO:

Indiana Jones is the best action movie series, putting aside the fourth movie.

Die Hard is one of the best action movies because John McClane just barely makes it by the skin of his teeth and winds up bloody and bruised by the end, it's not dissimilar to Indiana Jones, Indy also always makes it by the skin of teeth, watching someone overcome overwhelming odds is more suspenseful and more exciting than someone who's a killing machine.

But those type of movies can be fun as well, with probably the best example being Commando, Predator falls interestingly in the middle because Arnold starts off as a killing machine before being outmatched by the Predator and has use his wits to survive.

Why isn't Sharknado on the poll?
that's what the other section is for, I wanted to focus mainly on Cop crime and vigilannte films like Dirty Harry and Death wish, but movies like sharknado is fair game, if a movie's primary genre is action, it's fair game.

I’ll add a plug for 48 Hours and Beverly Hills Cop. They may have not established the buddy cop genre, but I think they were probably the best the genre offered. Beverly Hills Cop 2 may be the most quintessential 80’s film, at least among action films.

can you belive Clint Eastwood played dirty harry from the ages of 41 to 58? then again Charles bronson played Paul Kersey well into his 60's even in 74 the man was jacked and in great shape for his age....

Have I mentioned That bronson was a national treasure and every day I miss him more and more? :'(

Dirty Harry is the best franchise, but Point Break holds a special place; it was the only VHS tape we had at our family's summer cabin, the rest being recordings from daytime TV, mostly Hanna Barbara cartoons. There weren't any stations close enough for the mast antenna, sports were listened to on the radio, so for close to a decade Point Break was what kept me occupied before bed while the adults played penny ante poker or euchre.

Anytime someone tries to tell me Sylvester Stallone can't act I show them that scene:
Really great stuff.
That's the best part about first blood despite what the msm tries to say about it, (especially today) it really is a deep and meaningful character study into how horrible and devisee war is, both while it happens and even when it's "over" and the warriors come home.

Appreciate these movies while we have them boys, every day they become little more than snapshots of a days gone by...

Great choices there, and most of them are naturally classics. I'd put in Aliens and the first two Terminator movies as well.

It's hard to lock down any favourites when almost everything made back in the day is better than the stuff that's made now, and that's even without nostalgia glasses. But I'll put in a good word for Mad Max: Fury Road seeing as Mad Max is about the only classic action series that's received a respectful sequel in the last 20 years.

I would argue that it's probably the best emotional scene Sylvester Stallone ever did for a movie. It certainly changed my perception.
Well, might as well post Demolition Man here. Since this is the future we are heading for/in.

Love this movie.

You fuck, I was just about to include that!

Great movie. Wesley Snipes was clearly having a lot of fun with the role, and it made the movie better for it.

well we may be heading for the demoalition man future but here's a fun fact.

At the time Taco bell used primarilary yellow with hints of red for their logo

when demoltion man came out in 94 the taco bell of the future uses this logo to look more classy and futuristic

while YUM! brands the company who owns taco bell never officially adopted this logo, after demoltion man came out in 93 from 94 to around 2016 they used a logo slightly inspired by the demolition man logo.

the only change to the logo after 2016 was switching the white and purple on the bell.
