I can't be arsed to redo my opening post again, so if anyone's returning from the old thread (which was destroyed when Kiwi Farms went through rough times) just post the same sort of comments you originally posted.

I think that north korea is going to become its own country in the future and we will just refer to the countries as choson (north) and korea (south) in the future. There were significant cultural differences before the split anyways and I doubt there is any chance of integration now that they have split so much

North will colapse without Chinese support.
Both Japan,China and America fear deeply a united Korea.
Sure, the reunification will cost a lot,bit very quickly there will be a new country in Korea, with the technology and resources.
China and Japan aren't currently doing well, imagine with another competitor.
Now united the new Korean would not even be aligned to America anymore since it can defend itself.
The north will be in a loop of poverty and insanity for decades.
Unless they really go full asstards and attempt a war which almost happened several times.
I doubt China would be directly involved since they would burn their prestige for literally aiding a shithole.
They would either create a coup and replace the Kim dynasty with more reasonable generals or politicians or if Kim purges all Chinese friendly people they would cease support and the north would be crushed by the south.

I think when the DPRK collapses it'll happen fast and be relatively bloodless. In the event of an uprising/coup both South Korea and the US would get involved, even if just to ensure that any violence didn't spread to the South. Cutting the Norths supply lines wouldn't be hard, they're still using trucks the Soviets built in the fifties. Starved of supplies half the army would defect and the DPRK would be forced to surrender.

North Korea is hilarious. They're like the lolcow of nation-states.

While the official position on both sides is reunification, the South really probably doesn't want to have to support a bunch of malnourished, uneducated midgets. Obviously, as has been mentioned, Japan and China don't want reunification to happen, either, as that means more regional competition.

Semi-related, I saw an interesting article on Twitter a few days ago about the North Korean "upper class" millennials living in Pyongyang.
