The 101 Dalmatians live action remake from the 90's, while far from a great movie or anything, at least got Cruella right. Glenn Close is absolutely batshit in that movie, and she looks like she's having an absolute blast playing her. She's fun to watch, because she's so evil and rotten.
I might need to check that out, it could be fun to see her chewing up the scenery.

It seems to be a foreign concept in media these days that some people are just rotten. There doesn't have to be a rhyme or reason for it.

I am waiting for Disney to do a back story on Ursula next or Scar. Who knows maybe we will get something on that Spirit in that magic mirror on the wall? Everything must be explained.

Western media can’t seem to understand that there’s a difference between explaining a villain’s motivations and justifying them.

You can absolutely create a backstory for a villain that makes the audience sympathize for how they turned evil, while still realizing that they’re an evil fuck who is in the wrong. It’s like they think being a victim automatically absolves one of guilt for their wrongdoing... I wonder where they possibly could’ve gotten that idea from?

You have a point. These are fictional cartoon villains of course you're going to have a story where the bad guy is just rotten. Why do we have to turn them into the protagonist and sympathize with them?
