Do people still like Vaporwave? -

Because slowing down a michael jackson loop is the height of transformative art
I too think its derivative as well, but if I need something to listen to while washing dishes and the like its great to block out distractions. Music has always been recycled to create new music even if it turns out shit so, its not surprising some of it sounds the fuckin same. I should have worded my previous statement in my other post better . What I meant to say was people copy other vaporwave artists because its seen as the standard way to go about it and people seem to like it. Also Hit Vibes was a good song to shit on mundane matt with. :cunningpepe:
Edit: I said better twice lol I need to find my fuckin glasses.

I like it, but I can see why a lot of people consider it to be shit.

When you think about it, Vaporwave isn't really music. It's a kind of post-music, sometimes even to the point of being anti-music (government name: noise) because once you peel away the autistic pet fixations the scene has, it's a complete perversion of the musical process where other people's songs, voice samples, audio editing programs, and the like are your instruments. It's kind of like the audio equivalent of MSpaint, in that half the fun is making deliberately grotesque garbage for fun. Fundamentally speaking, Vaporwave is a manifestation of 21st century decadence and first world societal collapse where a kind of artificial faux-nostalgia for a mythical, nearly-nonexistent period at the turn of the century is created and fetishized through warped and broken pieces of stolen yet often worthless cultural artifacts.

My "contribution" to the genre.

I like vaporwave.
What I don't like is slowing down an 80s song and pitchshifting it down. That's fucking lazy, and even a mongoloid can do that in Audacity in under five minutes.

Now, sportswave? God-tier.

It's cozy to listen to it late at night watching the snowfall. I listen to it to unwind tbh. A good cup of tea and vaporware at 3 AM as you star gaze. Try it sometime.

It's fundamentally a mongoloid genre even when it tries to pretend that it isn't with more involved production tricks or a more avant-garde end result. The cheapness and disposability are built-in features at all levels of it because it's not actually hard to make compared to real music.

There's some really good stuff in the genre, if you're willing to dig around a little bit and explore, but I do find for the most part that the stuff that most people think of when they hear the term "vaporwave" has kinda been over-played at this point. That's just kinda how genres go tough. If you're not into the metal genre you probably think of like 3 bands when you hear the term "metal". It's the same concept.

there was a period when I was in love with it but overtime it became abusive and destructive and I simply stopped loving it all together.

and by "abusive and destructive", I mean it became less about the music and more about a community filled with trannies, autism, woke-ism, furries and manchildren. all of which act holier than God. there's also a lot of bullshit drama.

I'm thinking of creating a "vaporwave" thread in Community Watch. Several vaporwave people are aware of the existence of this site, why not document the stupidity, immaturity and basically sperg behavior that goes on in vaporwave?

Down, and yeah- pretty much. Seapunk was better than vaporwave, imo.

The genre moved far past its original roots or even concept as it branched out of noise music initially, which most people seem to really forget.

People also seem to take the genre as being the aesthetic that developed around it and as simply "slowed down late 80s pop music". Nothing of the actual philosophy survived, and it died faster than punk, which is saying something. Hauntology, Accelerationism, and a Reimagined Future combined with an ephemeral floating ukiyo-e world, magnificent vision really. It emerged to counter brostep and a lot of more superficial movements within electronic music and was quite a contrast to what was around at the time and very much future oriented, festival driven, and optimistic. I still enjoy the initial concept of vaporwave, but as a genre, it was dead before it hit mainstream, and then the mainstream basically raped its corpse.

It was practically started by Vektroid in 2011, who is a non-passable troon, so the genre was filled with troons from the start. Granted, that musician is/was talented, but that isn't quite the point.

I used to listen to the genre every day and night for roughly four years while binge drinking and getting high (I don't do that stuff anymore). It felt nice at the time, mostly because it was the only thing that I could really do to feel anything at all back then, but now I look back on it with a fair amount of self-disgust. I still listen some of the artists from time to time, but now it just comes off as being degenerate.

I think twitter is the only place I ever see vaporwave related stuff.
Saw a lot of it on youtube and even some Mods for paradox games that replaced the soundtrack. Seems to have dropped as it evolved into new genres for specific peoples. Now adays I am listing to Weeb techno mostly by Sewerslvt. I considered myself a bit sperated from trends and lost any care what is and isn't out of date.

I liked Vaporwave, I still like Future Funk and the other derivatives. It was never really a thing by itself. It just came around before synthwave took over and changed it.

I was wondering when that troon would be mentioned. I personally think slvt is thread worthy but idk if enough people would be interested.
