Do you ever Pre-order games ever? I think it's really stupid because most games you can wait about 6 months to a year and get it on sale cheaper. If it's a game I want badly release day, I can just walk in and buy it off the shelf.

Only if there's actually some discount associated with it. And that's just hypothetical. I haven't ever seen that happen.

There's more than that. Preordering video games encourages bad business practices.

A big reason why games ship broken is entirely because of how publishers know they will make a profit on day one. Q/Aing the game is basically optional after that point and they can just focus on making DLC and a sequel. This has happened numerous times.

It's also the reason why preorder DLC exists, why day-one DLC exists, etc. So many industry problems would not exist if it was the general attitude with people to just wait until the game comes out and buy it then.

No, I'd rather not make a $70+ investment for something that might turn out to be piece-meal, broken and complete shit. I'd rather wait for the game to be $10 in a year so I'm only out $10 then $70.

I gave up on pre-orders after Gamestop screwed me out of whatever physical item that was supposed to come with the pre-order the last two times I did it. Of course now that every title ever seems to come out either broken and unplayable or in DLC hell until the GotY edition comes out a year later, I have even less incentive to pre-order.

I pre-order Pokémon games because I know they're big sellers and want to be sure I get one, and also because they often come with some physical thing that I want for whatever reason. That's about it though.

I usually preorder from devs I trust, or feel have a good track record.

Other than that, fuck that.

I'd preordered the amiibo retro 3 pack, mostly because those are the only amiibo I'd actually wanted beside the classic mario amiibo. Beside that, I really don't preorder anything, the last thing I preordered before that was the south park game, which I had to wait a year and a half before they finally release it.

I preorder if it's a game I'm willing to take a chance on, be it from a trusted dev or just a game in a series I'm really invested in. I do so mainly cause I want to make sure I get a copy right at release, and there's no guarantee our stores will have enough to satisfy preorders and walk-ins. I remember when I assumed our dinky town wouldn't care about Tactics Ogre: Knight of Lodis, and it took me months to find a copy. That was in an era before shady preorder culture though.

Total waste of both money and time, for the customer anyway. The only reason chain stores like GameStop push pre-ordering so hard is that it's essentially an interest-free loan for them ($5 or whatever the minimum pre-order price is x thousands of pre-orders every year really adds up for any one store).

I'm too poor to buy video games in general, let alone preorder. :sighduck:

I'm in the "preordering's a waste of time" camp, though. I'd rather pay $20 or $30 in a month or two used than $60 brand new.

Only if it comes with a physical item I want or I really want it. Otherwise I wait until its half off on Steam.

I've only preordered twice, once for Smash Bros on 3DS and once for Pokemon Y, and that's only because my local stores always sell out of the limited stock they carry and they take forever to restock anything. Plus, I didn't want to wait an extra few days to have it shipped when I knew that the games were already going to be good.

Other than that, I never preorder. I've never needed to, and 9 times out of 10 I buy a game a few years after it is released for much, much cheaper.

Only if it's something I really want which is likely to go out of stock.

Otherwise no.

Steam doesn't really have that problem as it's digital.

I rarely preorder, and usually it's on games that I know I'm going to like and I know won't be completely broken (Like GTA or Nintendo Games).

I think I've only preordered one game in the past 4-5 years. And that was GTA V on Steam. If you preordered it you got a shit ton of in game cash so it was definitely worth it.

I think I'd only preorder another game again if it came with in game bonuses or cool tangible shit.

I preorder games with fancy extras exclusive to preordering, a few I got came with time sensitive DLC codes that will never(And currently for the ones I got, still haven't years later long after the offers expired) be released to the masses
