I guess WB is having trouble with their autumn movies that aren't clown-related. It's telling that even eclipsing Terminator Dark Fate is, for lack of a better term, a dark fate.

BTW, we've also got a forum discussing the works of Stephen King right here: https://kiwifarms.net/threads/thoughts-on-stephen-king.35697/

The big shock here this weekend is how Warner Bros, which goes toe-to-toe with Universal/Blumhouse when it comes to commanding the horror space at the B.O., was completely blindsided here by a disastrous performance of its well-reviewed (73% fresh), well-received (B+ CinemaScore and 4 stars on Screen Engine/Comscore PostTrak, 60% definite recommend) Stephen King sequel Doctor Sleep, a mid $50M-ish production that was expected to come in north of $25M and is way short in No. 2 with, gulp, $12.6M. Holy crap.
Holy crap indeed. :story:

Ironically, he wrote the Doctor Sleep book because one of his fans back in the 90s wanted to know what happened to Danny Torrance after the events of his book.
Annotation by me: Here the reason why the movie failed!
Doctor Sleep is a movie that never should have been made, as so much other movies like every Terminator movie after the second one, The Fart Awakens,
The Last Jedi, Ghostbusters 2016, A Wrinkle In Time and so on and so forth.

Tbh, the only movie I want to see is Midway but other than that Tinseltown can fuck right off.

Main thing I remember about the book is that for some reason daenerys from game of thrones shows up as some warrior princess riding a horse with a spear, which kinda indicates King had zero fucking idea about game of thrones given how this would be like having Batman showing up as a gun crazed survivialist with a minigun and camel

Honestly the trailer did slightly get my interest back when it first came out due to the fact it was apparently a sequel to the Kubrick movie rather than the King book, which given my love of the Kubrick movie and the director not having a terrible record had me fairly interested, but honestly unless I have 2 hours to kill in the vicinity of a theatre in the coming few weeks I doubt I will bother showing up to watch, especially given the film apparently doesnt go into the deeper between the lines shit in the kubrick film that I find so fascinating

I knew this would do poorly.
The Shining, just like Blade Runner, is only popular among a small minority of people.
It's a very vocal minority but a minority nevertheless.
Most people only heard the names but never seen either.
Fanboys aren't enough of an audience to make a Hollywood movie profitable.

Also, what kind of name is Doctor Sleep?
I get it, that was the name of the book but if you want to release a sequel to The Shining movie, you need to give it a title that makes that clear.
That's why the sequels to Twilight and Hunger Games still had the titles of the first books in the movie sequels.
You need to spell things out for people.

Is this your way of subtly calling me a nigger?

Honestly, while this wasnt the reason why they called the film this, I think the best way to make a followup to an old classic that has a chance of drawing in big bucks from a wider audience is to not have it be too explicitly connected to the original in title and plotline, so that a potential viewer wont think they have to watch/read a bunch other stuff to understand it.

Hell if I were in charge of a project like this I would do my damnedest to make sure that it appeared to be an entirely original work and try to keep its link to the original quiet, so that when OG fans in the audience start seeing and hearing shit they recognise but were not expecting, they get that extra bit of enjoyment, and should it be a decent film they will sperg at great length to others who watch it to check out the shit it was referencing.

I'm torn. Doctor Sleep is supposed to be decent, and there's a lot of talent going into it. But it also looks like it drafts pretty shamelessly behind Kubrick's film, so maybe it's a good thing it crashed and burned.

Midway looks like a movie with an audience entirely made up of Boomer dads.

People who didn't go see Blade Runner 2049 are monsters.

They should have done a modern reboot of Maximum Overdrive.

Yeah, they'd never get the absolute magic of the original movie back, but it would still be fucking awesome to see people get murdered by smart phones, their smart houses, run over by AI cars. Then they'd all think "We just have to get somewhere with no internet!" before...

LOL NOPE! DEATH BY FUCKING SEMI!
