Since I couldnt put a doctor who poll on the old necro'd thread I decided to make a new one. All whovians, casual Doctor Who fans or uninterested observers feel free to pick one of the doctors and write a short comment why. Seriously I cannot be the only Doctor Who fan here  Seriusly I wanna see plenty of sperging over the Doctor past, present, and future.

I've only seen Tomb of the Cybermen, but that was enough to vote for the Second Doctor.

I just adore Tom Baker. He had a fantastic upbeat craziness. Also, dat voice!

The man himself is just wonderful fun. Here's a clip of Dead Ringers calling Tom Baker.

Just seeing him at the end of the anniversary special made me tingle all over and brought tears of nostalgia to my eyes.

Four is enjoyable in the episodes I've seen him in and I would be lying to say I didn't get teary-eyed when he showed up at the end of the 50th. 10 is a close second because he had kind of a similar energy to him.
...I'm very excited for the next incarnation.

I remember when I was a kid, I'd watch Doctor who sporadically. I watched a couple of pisodes invololving William Hartnell, then I lost interest (not that I dislike Hartnell, I thought he was a decent enough Doctor). I ended up missing Patrick Troughton's stint as he Doctor entirely. Then I started watching again sometime during Jon Pertwee's time as the Doctor and that's when I really started to get into it.

You know he did his own stunts? Like there was a serial where there's a huge ass fireball going off behind him and he just walks away as if nothing happened, twirling his own umbrella. You have to give the man some credit for that. I might be a bit biased because I met him once :3.

Let's see, I like Matt Smith overall. I think he's a good overall Doctor, not too eccentric but still quirky, plus I like his fashion sense. Also might be biased because I saw him at the series 4 US premiere.

My favorite classic series Doctor is Jon Pertwee. Again, good fashion sense, the dapper look, and he wasn't afraid to use violence if the situation required it. Plus he'd be pretty clever and think about things rationally and whatnot. Also he hated bureaucrats, especially certain parts of UNIT.

Tom Baker was cool but there's that bit in "Genesis of the Daleks" where he debates if he has the right to exterminate the Daleks before they even exist. On the one hand, it's deep to debate the philosophy of committing mass genocide even if it's the most evil beings in the universe but on the other hand, c'mon, it's the Daleks.

Now that the whovians have decided, ill say why I chose Colin Baker (and since i created the thread and poll MY WORD IS LAW!!!).

Put simply, Baker had all the odds stacked against him. A writer/producer who was at this point little more than a cocaine fueled android and obsessed with dragging the show in 50 different directions at once (i.e. wanting him "grimdark" at the same time he wanted slapstick comedy...hense the twin dilemma. and of course the multicolour abomination he was forced to wear), Michael "CUNTCUNTFUCKINGCUNTIHATEYOUFUCKINGSHITSTAINCUNTCUNTCUNT" Grade at the head of the bbc and who was both trying to kill the show (and sci fi in general) while fucking Baker's ex wife, some of the worst scripts ever of which the absolute worst was his first episode and introduction to the audience, and finally the show's "hiatus" which would leave him unceremoniously kicked out of the role.

And yet despite all this he was still able to shine out on occasion (i.e. trial of a time lord) and show hints of just how utterly awesome he could have been had circumstances been better, and the bbc not been staffed with such vicious cunts and incompetent halfwits at that time.

However the true clincher as to his place in who history is his role in the now officially canon as of "Night of the Doctor" (so go out and buy them. right now) Big Finish audio episodes. Put simply they show exactly how truly great a doctor colin baker is from Jubilee (for new series watchers think "Dalek" but faaaaaaar more insane, awesome, and freaky) to Davros to....pretty much all his episodes. In these episodes he is given the chance to develop the character past the various annoying traits and tics he has in the tv show and become probably THE most fully fleshed out and best characterized incarnation of all the doctors.

Given the sheer enormity of this character development and just how much shit he had to wade through in the process, i think its only fair my vote went to colin baker.

(and now my sperg rant can end)

Nine is my favorite (I wear my replica jacket damn near every day), but Ten, Eleven, and Four are all great. I have a feeling I'll like Five, too, but I haven't seen any of Davison's episodes yet.

Love the parenthetical after Cushing. Killer actor, but what a train wreck those are.

I really enjoy Patrick Troughton as the Second doctor. Only seen a few episodes of the classic Dr. Who, but so far he stands out the most to me.

For current, I really enjoy Matt Smith. He's got energy and seems less...I don't know how to put it, maybe whimsical. David Tennant was good and all, but the whole Rose drama really kinda just turned me off completely.

I didn't want to opt for the one choice that lumped most of the most recent Doctors in together, because I didn't want to be mistaken for yet another Tennant fan. I didn't take to him as the Doctor at all.

I finally gave in to checking new Dr. Who out last summer, after about a million friends wouldn't stop posting memes about it on their FB pages. I don't have access to the show where I live, so I had to subscribe to Hulu to watch it, and it starts there with the Eccleston season. I was immediately charmed by Eccleston as the Doctor, and loved that season. When David Tennant turned up, though, the first and only thing I could think of was Barty effing Crouch Jr., and I really could not make the transition from that guy to this quirky Doctor. He didn't do it for me at all, though I hung in there and watched a few episodes, then skipped to the end, because I wanted to see the Daleks vs. Cybermen clusterfuck, and I liked Rose. When the new girl, and then eventually Smith appeared, I was seriously done. Haven't watched since.

....It's a shame, too, because I love Alex Kingston, and really wanted to see her performance as River Song. :/

I've never seen even a single moment of Doctor Who. I know only some broad strokes about it, like the vacuum cleaner robots are bad guys.

That said, I know people who love the show, and I very much enjoy referring to the main character as "Doctor Who" as if that's his name in front of them.

I feel bad that no one voted for McGann :([/quote]

aye, Mcgann is a very close second to Colin Baker in the audio episodes, and its a crime he was never given a televised run. I just hope the rumors are true over him getting more mini-episodes/a spin off series because frankly he deserves it.
