I watched Dr. Who once. A giant talking refrigerator robot was going to destroy the universe or some shit, and everybody acted like it was super dangerous and freaky but I found it totally laughable. My brother, who can't have been older then ten at the time, loved it to bits. The whole thing came across as super cheap and corny to me. 2\10 would not watch again.

Maybe it's a hipster thing or it's super cult or something, but I really don't get the appeal of this show.

Like the Prince of Darkness, I tried to get into Dr. Who by watching the very first couple of episodes or so and I really couldn't see the appeal. All it was about was this drama of Caucasian caveman kidnapping the crew. Apparently kidnapping happens a lot in the show. Maybe being exposed to Star Trek (in particular, STNG) before made my tastes incompatible with Dr. Who or something?

I think it's the super cheap and corny thing that makes it. Also, that the hero is not some big, buff guy with a fuck off huge gun spewing one liners. There's something just terribly British about it all.

It could also be that you watched the very first episodes, when shit was super tight budget wise. The BBC just had no faith in a sci-fi show created by a 'bossy Jewish woman' and 'an uppity Paki'.

Star Trek started out that way too. I suppose had I gotten into Dr. Who first, I may have not seen the appeal of Star Trek if I tried to get into it by watching the very first low budget episode where the first captain got stuck on the planet with the big-brained aliens who mess with his mind. All that painfully 60s tech and other things may have made it unappealing.

BTW, I didn't mean any racism with the Caucasian caveman remark. It just seems kind of amusing (in a historically inaccurate way) that the first humans were Anglo-Saxon with a British accent.

Loved the original stuff. The new stuff is written for teen girls and broke the rules.

Like the doctor kissing Rose
Bringing people back from the dead by pulling them from another timeline

Also timey-wimey.

Have you seen the Peter Capaldi episodes yet?

A lot of them are rather dark and the Doctor straight up sacrifices a couple of people.

But yeah, fuck Russell T Davies for that shit.

Ahh, I don't care about that 'ism' and 'whitewashing' crap. The show runners were working with what they had, nothing more.

My opinion on capaldis run can be best summed up by the fact i used my utter loathing of it so far to create a review thread in multimedia just so that i could rant about how much i fucking hated his worst episode yet.

And honestly, I aint seen much that will redeem him or moffat yet. srsly i have never approached a season finale of doctor who with this much apathy

No I have not. Is that the new guy? I read there was some drama created when the Doctor was no longer a twenty-something "cute in his own kind of way" teen magnet.

But yeah, years ago I quit looking in the toilet after I take a dump. Even if I eat something really high class and expensive, it's still going to be crap.

The last Capaldi season is pretty good, mainly because Bill is pretty awesome. I really wish we'd got three season of Bill, because Clara just fucking sucked and dragged down every single episode she was in.

Tom Baker > everyone else
I've always found Tom Baker to be extremely overrated. (Not nearly as overrated as Tennant though...) I at least find him likable enough though, he just isn't even close to my favorite.

10 at his worst, which is most of his run, is an insufferable cunt, and only gets worse for the most part. (except for the short time he spent with Donna, that was pretty good)

Worst doctor so far had to be Matt Smith, at his best he was cheesy and at his worst he was annoying as hell.

Jodie might change this record in her run tho. We'll see.

Strongly disagree... I think Smith was, at worst, a refined version of David Tennant's Doctor (who was overrated as hell, and really one of the worst)

Tennant's first series was literally so bad that it actually made me stop watching the show for 2-ish years. Luckily I came back in time to see Matt Smith, and literally the best season of new who ever, even to this day, in series 5. (Ok yeah, it went downhill from there, but that changes nothing)

I've been listening to the Jago and Litefoot audios, and quite liking them. Leela is on the series im on now, and apparently 6 joins them for a bit later on.
