Does anyone here actually try to eat a healthy diet? -

I mean, I won't eat junk food constantly as I prefer eating chicken and beef along with some veggies when I'm in the mood, but overall I don't really give a fuck about what I eat.

I'm by no means a fatass, but I'm also not skinny. And for the most part, I hardly eat anything at all. Today even, I only ate 3 pieces of bacon and 2 frozen chicken patties I baked in the oven. But for the past couple of hours, I've been chugging a 1.6 QT bottle of raspberry lemonade and haven't felt hungry in the slightest.

I really only eat if I feel like I'm starving (which is extremely rare) or if I feel I need more energy throughout the day. Otherwise, most of my calories come from drinks like lemonade or orange juice. Idk, I just feel as though the whole "2,000 calorie" a day thing is just to get us to buy more food.

Well, unless you're trying to bulk up, and then calories become ridiculously important. You have to eat absolute fat-ass quantities of food and it feels so hilariously counter-intuitive. More fat people should power-lift because you can just slam down food like it's nobody's business and all you need to do is lift a heavy thing and put it back down for a bit. Weight lifting is weird.

I definitely agree with that. If you're going to be a fatass anyway, you should at least powerlift as it would benefit you extremely well in the long run. I'd probably go that route myself if I had the money to eat 4,000+ calories a day.

I've mostly cut red meat out of my diet, although I still consume fish (white meat is technically okay but I don't like it). In addition, I mostly cut fat and refined sugar out of my diet, although I'm not strict and allow myself to cheat to go with the flow.

All in all I feel more 'clean' internally. The lack of meat but not lack of protein means I don't feel my heart straining itself and I'm clogging my arteries way less. Red meat is just a very sluggish feeling food on you, and it's classified as a level 2 (I think) carcinogen, so not really my thing.

I probably do have some deficiencies, but I'd argue most people who don't specifically plan their diets probably do. I don't take any supplements or anything since I feel fine, so if I don't get X amount of whatever mineral it must not be utterly vital to not dying, even if it is desirable to have for X reason.

I try to at least have healthy breakfasts and lunches, dinner is usually either/or.
And that's the thing, say two meals a day are healthy? You can splurge a little bit. Have a rich dinner, or have a nice dessert now and then. The important part is to know that's not something you get all the time- it's a treat. I appreciate a slice of cheesecake much more if it's a nice one at a restaurant once a month or whatever than I would be buying them daily at Wal-Mart.

I eat red meat on weekends mainly, but I try to stick to white meat such as chicken or turkey bacon. I tried going vegan, but felt sick as fuck and I ate most of the same shit Vegan Gains ate, just in smaller portions. If I ever get motivated enough to plan it out accordingly, I'll probably try the paleo diet in the future as I think it would be the best for me.

Definitely. On the weekends, I'll eat whatever the fuck I want to eat. But on the weekdays, I'll stick to healthy shit as much as possible. That way I don't feel as though I'm depriving myself of anything but at the same time, I'm still sticking to a relatively healthy diet.

I don't know what the carb source on paleo is, just fruit and vegetables right? But provided it isn't something utterly exceptional like raw veganism/carnivorism, fruititarianism or Jordan Petersen's diet then it's probably fine. The human body is pretty diverse and we can live a while even on shit that is objectively bad for us.

In paleo you can eat veggies and fruits (which are carbs) but you can't eat processed carbs like noodles or bread. I've been eating close to the paleo diet for a while now and actually feel better, I just haven't really planned it out like bodybuilders or athletes do yet.

With paleo, you can eat whatever you want as long as it's not heavily processed. The only restrictions from what I can tell are pasta, grains, and legumes. Basically, as long as you can find it in the wild, it's paleo. I have no idea why they cut out legumes though.

The legume part sounds retarded but otherwise that's a solid general plan and sounds close to my diet when I'm not cheating.

Healthy is a subjective term. We have people here who think more plant based is healthier, or less sugar and fat or cutting out junk food.

My idea of a healthy diet differs considerably. To me healthy is eating as home cooked as possible. I try to limit foods that any corporation had a hand in making. They create food to make money - it has nothing to do with health and well-being. I make my own bread, chicken broth, can my own fruit and tomato sauce and cook a good meal every single day. I belong to a CSA (community supported agriculture), which is a farm share program. Every week I get a box of organic veggies and some fruit. This is better than store bought because the food is grown for health, not profit. If it is a bad grow year though you don't get much for your money. I am certain that my family gets their proper amount of macro and micro nutrients everyday. I choose to invest a lot of time and money into our diet.

But I have an athletic teenage son with about 6% body fat. He eats about 4,000 calories a day. I can't keep up with that. He throws back a lot of rice and bananas because they are high calorie to cost foods. Still, I often give him a twenty and tell him to go to McDonalds or wherever. As long as he gets proper nutrition at home the rest is just calories.

So even though we eat dessert about twice a week, (almost everyday during local fruit season), red meat and bacon I feel we eat very healthy. The menu usually consists of what is on sale and I try to keep my shopping to the outer isles of the grocery store. But everything is home made. Everything. (Except things like cheese, cured meats and certain condiments).

TL;DR
Michael Pollan wrote the best book on nutrition called Food Rules. He says, "Eat food, not too much, mostly plants."

Yes.

I'm severely autistic about my diet. I weigh all my food and track my macros. Got damn near 10% body fat for my summer cut. Once or twice a week I'll have a cheat meal but I usually just eat the same thing every day (eggs, oatmeal, rice, chicken, broccoli, shitloads of whey protein, etc...)

The 2000 calorie diet isn't a scam, you are probably just not active enough to need that much food. Most people today are sedantary and could probably live off 1500-1800 calories just fine.

I don't really make any active efforts to eat healthy. However, I end up doing that most of the time anyway due to my dislike of ready to eat meals and fast food and the fact that I tend to avoid eating too much of something that is very fatty/sugary as it usually makes me feel ill to the point where I have no appetite when the next meal comes around. I'd say that a good rule of thumb is to eat as much home-made food as possible
