Yeah, she slept with her sister's husband, her oldest hates her guts, she was a confirmed boozer, and she help her oldest mentally disabled son assault someone over something trivial, I'm pretty sure she's suffering from at least 3 overlapping personality disorders if not all of them.

She has an advanced case of Shitty Selfish Bitch Disorder for sure.

I know the psychiatric community is divided about how to define personality disorders, but she definitely has done a lot of things that are given as examples of different personality disorders. And these are the things Chris has told us about! Who knows what other shit she's pulled.

So, does Barb have a clinical disorder? Some have suggested BPD, some have called her narcissistic. (Of course, mods feel free to lock this thread if it's a repeat/shitpost.)

She's Chris's mom. If she hasn't gone completely crazy by now, she's stronger than most people.
I think you're idealizing snorlax too much, in the example of Chris and his mother in relation to mental illness it should be looked at as a what came first the chicken or the egg. I don't know if anyone has ever seen the film Grey Gardens, but they're like that, except they're not related to the Kennedy's, Barb was never a socialite capable of landing rich eligible bachelors, Chris and Barb have no talent, and instead of being a famous entertainer like little Eedie, Chris is an unattractive man with gender displacement issues and autism.
Either way, it would be easier to go through the DSM V and deduce things that Barb does not have..it would be a short list.

Borderline Personality Disorder. People with that can be pleasant in person (the way Barb was pleasant with Catherine), but really defensive, and oftentimes truly mean, vicious and terrifying. Usually people with BPD are extremely resistant to any type of therapy because it would require them to relinquish some type of control, which I suspect is the case for Barb refusing to to
a.) Get adequate treatment for Chris' autism
b.) Get adequate treatment for the hoard
c.) Get adequate treatment for her pseudo-immobility (with which Chris is ABSOLUTELY NOT qualified to assist)

I also suspect BPD for Barb because occurrences that have happened between her and not only Chris, but Cole as well. All I know about Cole is that he experienced severe beatings from her and her husband at the time. That didn't give enough insight as to whether or not that was more Barb or the husband. However, incidents between Barb and Chris provide a lot more insight into a possible diagnosis.

The traumatic interactions between Barb and Chris that I'm basing this on are mostly just between them: Barb angrily forcing Chris to sit down while she chopped off his hair (Bob called him a 'fag', but he didn't participate in this); Barb screaming and threatening that she was going to commit suicide (threats are prevalent from those with BPD); and Barb flipping over his table of toys in a rage when Chris said that he wanted to sleep in his own room.

I'm basing this on the fact I have a relative who has BPD, and the patterns are very similar

Shit beliefs like this is why that lawyer could use affluenza as an excuse.

I don't know enough about the affluenza case to comment on it specifically, but as I understand it, your point (and a few others') seems to be that:

1) There is no such thing as personality disorders, only assholes who refuse to acknowledge or change their behavior, and
2) Pathologizing terrible behaviors gives them another way to justify not changing.

First, I agree that people do use personality disorders as an excuse for their behavior. However, this does not mean that genuine personality disorders do not exist.

If you believe that there is no way that personality disorders exist, think of it this way: it's like saying that a clinical psychopath is "just" an asshole. That's true, but there's at least one organic reason for it - low orbital cortex activity caused in part by genetics.

Barb may be a stinky gigantic cunt, but that doesn't preclude her from having a disordered brain that predisposes her to being a stinky gigantic cunt.

Pathologization is a way to pinpoint what exactly is wrong with someone and what the best way to treat them is. If someone uses their disorder/disease to justify not at least trying to better their situation, that's their own problem.

Probably. Her level of hoarding is well beyond any reasonable explanation. Her behavior without Bob being around is also inexplicable. The moment I realized she was as crazy as Chris was when she with full understanding of the situation drove him to confront Snyder and ended up with more serious charges than Chris.

She's also a selfish horrible person. But I don't think that's in the DSM-5.

Chris has those moments where she can't control him and becomes a puppet and then those moments where Barb has him at whiplash

Chris has even said that life would be better without her around but can change when he realises that she is the closest to spooning and communicating that he will ever get currently
