A simple question, which may be already discussed but due to recent events could be regurgitated for discussion:

If it does come to a point where Chris is left to take care of himself (which will sadly end in failure ) will Cole care enough to make sure Chris is institutinalized or at least have some sort of action in regards to Chris's well being? Or will he just let Chris become a detached memory with no compassion?

They've given him every reason to hate them. I doubt he ever wants to see them ever again. NB4 lock.

It's a decent question, so I'll give it the best answer I can think of.
It's a maybe, Cole seemed to care at one point, but now he ignores Chris and will not send him emails (causing Chris to slam him on twitter)
Cole may care enough to get him into a group home, but that's about it.

Re: Does Coleslaw care about Chris?

What has Chris done for Cole in, like, ever? He begged him for help stuffing the ballot for a contest, but refused to provide the slightest bit of assistance in finding out who Cole's real father was (something that would be immensely helpful in understanding, say, one's own medical history). Recently, he raged at Cole for being married, and demanded Cole stop his life (whatever we think of that life is immaterial here) in order to come home and tend Barb in the hoard so Chris could go out and get laid. Not, you know, to provide emotional assistance to Barb or anything.

So I wonder what you think Chris has done, other than exist, that might provoke a response of compassion in Cole. I'm not talking about whether Chris deserves it; I'm talking about whether and why Cole might feel inclined to give it.

Chris was a funny, but hopefully innocent kid. Has there been any account of Coles interactions with Chris as a child?
There could be some semblance of a brother hood has some point. If Chris was my little brother I would be very upset, but again that's not my place to actually consider, given the Bob and Barb factor. Is there a possibility that Cole has a contingency plan in place for Chris? I would think his anger would be more directed towards Borb, and extended even further with their belligerent mishandling of Chris.

Re: Does Coleslaw care about Chris?

If Cole does anything to help Chris at this point he's a bona-fide saint.

But Cole isn't a saint, and if he walks away from the manbaby in its hour of need, I'm sure not going to blame him for being merely human.

They didn't grow up together, their only connection is :snorlax: and Cole doesn't have many happy memories from growing up with her. So, really, why should he care? They may be family officially, but they never really were.

It would take a incredible amount of kindness on Coles part, but there is a insurmountable pile of reasons for him to keep his hands clean of this train wreck and stay as far away as possible. I guess I put myself in his shoes so it makes me wonder of he is bothered by all of this.

IMO, if Cole would be willing to help, he would have done so already.

Far as I'm concerned Cole would be a moron to help. Nether of them would be grateful and neither has tried to improve there lives. Its like when you try to save someone from drowning and they try to force you under to stay afloat, you have to let them drown lest both you of do.

That presumes Cole's capable of helping.

I'm sure he has cared in the past, but has washed his hands clean of the Chandlers at this point. Chris has become a mouthpiece for Barb.

Cole doesn't care now, so he won't care then. Chris is likely nothing more than a reminder that the mother he's given up on since Chris acts just like Barb does (i.e., only contacting people when he wants something, not to actually show he cares). He has his own life to conduct.

Re: Does Coleslaw care about Chris?

Here's what I really wonder:

When Barb finally shuffles waddles off her mortal coil to go to the great q-sand feast in the sky (Oh who am I kidding? She's goin' to hell.) will Cole wash his hands of the whole sad story and get on with his life?

Or will he show up for his share of the vast Chandler fortune whatever is left of the proceeds of 14BLC after probate sells it off, thereby taking his share of vidya money from the mouth of dear Christian?

Thinking like a self-important beatnick hipster (I'm disturbed at how easy this was), I can see Сole offering some help towards Chris, in an attempt to appear altruistic to anyone who might find out.

I can see Cole furiously masturbating while fantasizing about a random barista saying "Oh, there's Saint Сole... He's going to so much trouble to help save his retarded half brother, after his evil mother died and left him alone in a cold and uncaring world. Сole is such a wonderful humanitarian. Our Lord and Savior, Barack Obama, should be calling Сole any day now to become his Czar of Caring and Movie Reviews. ALL HAIL СOLE SMITHEY!!"

It's a difficult situation under even the best of circumstances. Coleslaw is facing what many people with elderly parents face: his mother, who lives apart from him, is no longer fit to care for herself. Granted, we don't know that empirically, but even if Barb has some self-reliance left in her, it won't be for long. People in this situation often don't want to lose their "independence" by moving in with a relative, or into an assisted living facility, and it's very difficult to make them do so against their will. Cole would essentially have to show that Barb is no longer of sound mind (which we have a mountain of evidence to support, but documenting it is time-consuming) and that he's legally able to make her decisions.

After he gets done with THAT, Coleslaw would have to start the whole process over and do the exact same for Chris, which would be even more difficult because the Chandlers have made sure the system considers Chris to be a fully capable adult. The only thing that would work in Coleslaw's favor would be if Chris and Barb, for whatever reason, had already appointed him Power of Attourney, and I think the odds of that are Powerball-type small.

So you have a good point, it's extremely unlikely Coleslaw would be able to help the Chandlers in any way except to be their errand boy, and we all know that's not going to happen. However, given that Coleslaw didn't go to Bob's funeral, and it doesn't sound like he's even visited in the last few years or even attended the trials... I fully expect that he won't see Barb again until she's in a pine box, holey buttocks or not. Barb's decline has been a long time coming, Coleslaw clearly doesn't give a shit.

Re: Does Coleslaw care about Chris?

I think that Barb has poisoned Chris too much for Coleslaw to really care about him. Chris, being naive as he is, parrots whatever Barb tells him about Cole. Who his father is and Cole being brain-damaged. Chris will lord the supposed brain damage over Cole as the High-Functioning Autistic that Chris is. Cole, on the other hand, probably resents the pampered man-baby as Barb cared more for Chris than she ever did for Cole.

So I think any help towards Christian will be minimal at best. Probably just find a group house or an institution for Chris and be on his way.

What are the odds she's left him anything? It seems more likely she'll leave everything she has to Chrissy-poo.
