Does Jackson Pollock's work have worth? -

Something that's been on my mind is Jackson Pollock, especially since there's a special exhibition at a local museum of his work.
On one hand, I know that all the man ever did was get drunk and throw paint at canvases. (Ok, so there's obviously more to him than that. But most of my research into famous artists is dedicated to Van Gogh and other post-impressionists.)
My logical self isn't impressed by him. What he did took no true effort and skill, and it's literally just paint splatters. I make random splotches of paint on my palette, but I don't see them as worthy enough to earn a bazillion dollars.
But my artsy fartsy self can see energy and cool patterns and such. I can get feels from his work. And apparently his movement as he ran around throwing paint is part of the art.

He was the first person to do that style and get it to be accepted as art, so I think that intrinsically gives it some value. Everybody else who try to copy his style made paintings that are by nature derivative, so only his original ones have value.

I have a bit of a guilty pleasure with Pollock. There's something kind of playful with splatters of paint.
