I thought it was pretty decent. Had a few moments that genuinely creeped me out, but the first half was definitely too slow-paced for my taste.
Maybe it's just me, but Monika's voice during the credits was cringy af. It didn't fit her at all and she also kinda sucked at singing. Could've done without that.

Quite honestly, i didnt like the game. The way they portrayed mental illness was pretty shallow and edgy, and i found the scary parts were trying too hard (all the glitchy effects and uguuu my eyes are bleeding~).
I feel this game falls under the New Undertale syndrome: not because it's shitty fandom, but because the devs were trying too hard to make a fucked up game with a *groundbreaking* twist and the whole hidden files bs. Props for who liked Doki Doki, but i found it extremely overhyped.

The game's enjoyable. You need to suffer three hours of light novel stuff, but I think it's important to not skip those. You invest time to the characters and warm up to them, there are also hints about interesting stuff that can easily be missed if you skip dialogue. All that deepens the impact of the shit that happens later, despite how slow it goes by. That's really my only major complaint with the game.

You can see subtle hints of the things the characters suffer through their dialogue before Sayori kills herself, not to mention that the conversations between you and them also slightly change after the incident. That only is enough for me to suffer the mushy stuff. Yuri mentions the knife collections and it's strongly implied that she cuts herself as soon as the house visit event with her, the plot of the horror book she is reading is different the second time around... that kind of stuff that really get you if you think about them after the suicide.

But truth be told, the game for me was a bit too obvious. Didn't help that I already knew about Sayori before playing it. The way things played out made for an entertaining game, but it's disappointing that this was all they could do with it. As soon as I started for the second time, without Sayori, my first thoughts were: "It's probably Monika, she is sentient (she did make a save and load joke before). Every girl I choose to romance will be targeted by her and then killed, it will be the same shit all over again. The fucking song that is always playing is Monika playing the piano, isn't it?" Sure enough, that is more or less that ended up happening, just not exactly in the way I expected it to. Especially that song bit, I was surprised that I caught on so early.

It was funny and scary at the same time to see everything glitching out, it's not an amazing horror game. A small enjoyable and very memeable one at best. And Monika's voice really didn't suit her, although I did like her song. It's catchy damn it.

Not gonna lie if they made a normal DDLC visual novel I'd play it, this was the only time I've played a visual novel and actually like the characters.

Same, exploring the literature club's personal issues would've been nice.
Someone on reddit did a fairly extensive mod that actives once you get the True End for the game that seems to be exactly this.
Aftrr the “thank you” message, Monika pops in as just the message to say she thinks she found a way to save everyone from the game, so it restarts you to the day of the festival, only this time you and Monika work to save Sayori from her suicide. You then go through and help the others with their personal issues.
It seems fairly well received from what I’ve seen, and there’s a few playthroughd on Youtube if you’re interested.

There is somerhing about these characters that gives me a distinct Katawa Shoujo vibe. Natsuki's hair is the same pink as Misha, and Yuri's shyness gives me serious Hana vibes.
I think I've said this before but someone should totally remake KS to follow the same vein as DDLC (with the first act etc. remaining the same) and then surreptitiously replace the download on the official site with it.
I'm lying, nobody should do that, but it'd be fairly amusing

I really like the idea that a story character knows that they're in a game and then starts fucking with other characters and the player. I think you could do a lot with that idea, even outside visual novels.

Fandom is cancer though, no surprises there.
