I don't need to watch the Donbass Conflict in Ukraine. We already have our own Dumbass Conflict right here in this topic. Shoutouts to @Badungus Kabungus and @NotSendingTheirBest for being a couple of turbospergs.
tbh I hope the Donbass conflict can be mended with words but it looks like some skulls might have to be stomped before anyone comes to any sort of agreement. :stress:

You're right, I was being a sperg. I guess the subject just touched my nerve, especially since I didn't expect someone like @Badungus Kabungus to parrot the agitprop lines so unironically.

But yes, woe is me, I was stupid.

Thanks. I'm not asking for pity, I just want to grill to not see the same shit I see surrounding me for the last 7 years, not on an obscure funni dairy ranch.

And even though Ukraine is ghey, it does unnerve me that someone with a country full of problems bleats on about fascists.

Ну ладно, погорячились. Я с западенцами конфликтую по этой теме ещё с 90х, может попутал слегка.

I guess some comments may have been uncalled for. I still say this whole conflict goes back much further than just Putin's ambitions though.

Edit: And at least none of us are Moldovan.

Is it over?
Hopefully.

There is always a possibility of provocations from Russia ("oi oi those UKRAINEAN HOHOLS are shelling CHILDREN in Donetsk"), from Ukraine ("oi oi those RUSSIAN VATNIKS are withdrawing IN THE WRONG DIRECTION and are ACKSHUALLY moving towards KIEV") or from good ol' USA ("oi oi those EBUL RUSSIANS poisoned Zelensky/blew up a warehouse/shot down a plane/whatever, go get them Ukraine"), but still I get a feeling everyone got what they wanted.

When in doubt, ask yourself - who stands to benefit?

Putin does not stand to gain anything from the invasion, his chief concern right now is to finish building the pipe™ to Germany so he can finally close the valve and let Ukraine and Poland freeze and be poor(er) without the transit money. With Navalny shit bubbling in the streets, Czechs flinging shit, Turkey stirring shit and shit generally getting shittier in the Motherland (as is tradition), he has his hands full (of shit) as it is. Like I said before, now is not the time for military adventures. I guess the purpose of the excercise was to remind Zelensky not to get too comfortable or get any funny ideas. Also to bare teeth at the world and show this is where Russia draws the line NATO expansion-wise. I really hope Finland is not harboring hopes of joining the merry bunch, you can see it from St. Petersburg on a clear day.

What does Zelensky stand to gain? More money from the US, more goodwill from the bleeding hearts ("cute Ukraine uwu so smol so brave standing alone against the tide of asiatic hordes"), a slightly better chance to join NATO somewhere down the line twenty-something years later (+0,01% increase is still increase). Maybe better chances during the next election? I cannot gauge the political climate in the Ukraine, don't have any sources there anymore. What he most definitely does NOT want is actually getting invaded, it is much more comfortable to be SEEN as a suffering oppressed martyr than BECOME one. And if push comes to shove, Ukraine will not stand if the shit gets real. Not enough manpower, Putin can just bury it under a writhing pile of bodies. A gruesome scenario.

What can the US get from this clusterfuck? Probably more than anyone else. Russia, the eternal menace, rival and archenemy, has once again shat its pants in front of the entire world and will keep doing so. More sanctions, not a snowball chance in Hell of opposing the US' interests in Europe for decades to come. The way the Czechs started barking over a dubious 7-year old incident at the snap of Biden's fingers is really telling who's pulling the strings in the Old World. And hopefully if the torn wound at the border festers long enough, Russia will get gangrene and keels over, so let's keep it open.

TL: DR - the show's over unless there will be a provocation. The only player standing to benefit from one is the US, especially if a bomb happens to blow up the evidence of the Bidens' incestuous business deals in the energy sector.

Now give me your autism stickers, the hour is late and my understanding of geopolitcs is so armchair it is a miracle I haven't turned plaid yet.

no, it’s in America’s best interest to stall Russia’s growth especially when they’re being this uncooperative. Sanctions + aid to the Ukranians is a good strategy and helps ensure the Russians remain snagged and keep them with a GDP smaller than Austalia.

It would be preferable if China was knocked down a peg instead, but the economic relationship between China and America is too symbiotic to disrupt at the moment; unlike the relationship with Russia.

It’s not in Western interests to provide opportunity for rival powers to grow. Russia will never be an ally.
Antagonize a peer power because cheap Chinese shit is just too good

Russia is nowhere near "peer power" to the Americans, Americans will penalize and sanction the Russians until they either cooperate or rot.

The Chinese are in the same globalized boat that the Americans are in, at the moment it's not in either state's best interest to rock it too hard.

The latest. No NATO membership, no US support - outside of propaganda/political - give us legal immunity and all your shit. PS: Stop pissing off the Russians. The Duran's roughly 13 minutes breakdown of meetings between Blinken and Nuland and Ukraine's President.

Who could have seen this outcome? I mean it's all so surprising... in a pigs eye...
