Here's my cue to shill:

Tropical Freeze is rereleasing on the Switch in two weeks. It is, without a doubt, the best 2D platformer I've ever played in my life. There's nothing about the game that isn't executed perfectly - the art, the music, the level design, the controls, the bosses, it's all brilliant. If you own a Switch and have never played it before somehow, I heavily recommend the purchase. It's a game that needs more love after all the bitching back when it came out on Wii U that it wasn't muh Prime 4 or looked too similar to the original. Fuck you Bob, you actually bought Sonic Forces like a dumbass.

Also it has Funky now so that's pretty bananas.

Never had a Wii U so never played it but big fan of the old Country games and will probably pick this up but it's retailing pretty heavy round here.

What makes it worth the price tag?

It's pricey for a port I'll admit but it's undoubtedly a great game.

I've wanted to play this game for so long, I love 2D platformers to death and the original DKC is one of my all-time favourites.
But I can't bring myself to buy a console just for this one game
Maybe I should look into playing it on emu, I think that WiiU emulator is supposed to be pretty functional now?

Not much. It expands on the themes found in the original games, but it's pretty darn similar, right down to the unique sense of 'heft' attached to Donkey Kong when he gathers momentum or jumps.

I'm just gonna throw my endorsement in as well. The music is by David Wise who did the originals. It's very long for a 2d platformer and there'll now be 5 unique playable characters each with their own style of play. Some of the stages have that "dark Nintendo" vibe which is always welcome. If anyone's waiting on getting a Sitch I think now is the time considering BotW and Odyssey are both worthy entries in their series as well.

I played through it on the Wii U and it's a shockingly underrated gem. I love how, despite the title of the game, it avoids being Ice World: The Game and instead brings a whole slew of new ideas to the table.

Once I get a Switch, I am so getting this. The portability is a huge plus for me.
