Doom is a game that attracts edgelords because the very subject matter involves rock music, demonic imagery, lots of blood and gore, and lots of violent ways to kill stuff.

I don't need to explain why that's an edgelord sperg magnet, do I?

To be honest I expected Doom to have a fanbase consisting of pretentious hipsters who are also metal elitists that would berserk at music that is modern pop and mainstream.

Doom came out in the nineties, this was the height of edge back then, and it's reputation for such lasted long enough to enter the gaming zeitgeist and attract edgelords who still think it's edgy as fuck.

Also, that bestiary has maybe one or two decent ideas (mostly the stuff that doesn't stray very far from Doom and looks like crap from the Skulltag source port), but they are buried under a mountain of 'tism.

Doomguy 2000 is an exceptional individual, better known for making pretty bad Doom mods, and getting banned by pretty much all major Doom forums for his behavior, to the point of being mocked by 4ch's /vr/, he calls all his critics "cowardly haters", showing that he's uncapable of handling criticism, and over the years after being banned from Doomworld and other communities he made his own forums where he constantly whines about Doomworld constantly (showing that he just can't let it go), he's egotistical to the point of writing his own article about him on the DoomWiki, and showing up every time someone is mocking him on the internet, he has a Youtube account where he uploads videos about his masterpieces and his rants against other people.

He's making Terry WADs, they're essentially purposely bad mods. Him making TerryWADs isn't imo what makes him a lolcow, it's how hilariously upset he gets about people criticizing his work.

Think about So Bad It's Good Movies that are intentionally terrible. For example, Sharknado is an example of a movie series that aimed for that niche and became a relative success, whileas some directors who aim for the So Bad It's Good niche fail horribly. The TerryWADs are essentially jokewads, but there's a definite community built around them and which enjoys them. There are some metrics to "good" joke wads and bad ones within the community.

Personally, I don't know enough to judge whether his .wads are good or bad within that context, I have no real reference point. But he seems to respond to criticism just about in the worst way possible, and makes videos against his haters, that's funny to me.

It doesn't make any fucking sense.

He thinks that in general TerryWADs are an artform that his haters don't recognize. I get his arguments that if people don't like his .wads, they can just ignore them sure, but if you put your .wads up on a site where the point is that people can grade them, review them and discuss them and then blow up when you get criticized, that's the weird part.
