Dorohedoro Appreciation Thread - Guy with a lizard head murders wizards and eats gyoza

Stage 1: What is Dorohedoro?​

Dorohedoro is the brain child of Q Hayashida, to put it simply, it's the story of a guy with a lizard head named Kaiman who hangs with his chef friend Nikaido while murdering sorcerers in order to find out who he really is since he has amnesia after getting attacked by a sorcerer. The story takes place in Hole, where people regularly become experiments to sorcerers that range from just a simple transformation to gorey hellshit. There's also a side plot involving the main antagonist En and his workers, Shin and Noi. There's usually a good balance between the plots involving Kaiman & Nikaido and En's Group and they both are really entertaining to watch.

Stage 2: The Music​

I usually would save this for the later parts but my god the music deserves mentioning. Not only is there an official soundtrack which I highly recommend, there's also a much older soundtrack made by a ton of talented music artists. The best way to describe it is just "gorey industrial fun". That's really what you can summarize Dorohedoro as.

Oh yeah, I also forgot to mention that Dorohedoro has more than four ending songs. Personally, my favorite has to be NIGHT_SURFING.

Stage 3: Should You Watch It?​

Hell fucking yes. The main series is only at least twelve episodes long, but there's also a mini series and the manga which is also an absolute blast to go through.

There's also tits and food.

Stage 4: Why Are You Making This Thread?​

I wanted to share my love of this unapologetically gorey series to see if there are other fans on the farms, I genuinely do enjoy this series for what it is and I hope you potentially do to. It got me into regularly cooking, so there's that.

The anime sorta ends in a bad spot storywise. Especially if they arent making another season then its sort of like ending the story right in the middle of a story arc.
Kaiman is definitively the least interesting and hes the MC sorta. Otherwise its a really awesome world/story to explore. Its weird and gets complicated and while the anime was good, it leaves out a bunch of stuff as well. Artwise, you either love or hate it.

 

[A Shi Piao Teapot]

I watched it when it aired and was pretty impressed. Only major gripes I can remember were how boring Ebisu and Fujita managed to be throughout the series. They have a little bit of an arc but manage to do almost nothing for most of the episodes. Music's boppin', visuals poppin', and the story's interesting enough to keep you watching. Still need to read the manga.

 

[A Useless Fish]

I love this fucking show. The music's fantastic, the world is deranged and interesting, and there isn't a single one of the eight main cast members I don't like, so I'm happy following whoever the story is interested in at the moment.

I also agree that 'Night Surfing' is definitely the best of a very fine collection of ending tunes. I can't wait for the second season!

I came about this manga back in 2018 on a tumblr post about good lesser know manga. Really love the Dirty/Trippy art style and it's take on magic powers. There's no character I don't love. I feel the anime does CG a little better that other shows *cough* Berserk *cough*. I own up to vol. 8 but kinda want to get the whole manga before this gets another season, ( specialy since I got a few uncle joe bucks saved ). Since best girl is being decided, how about best bro? I'd say either

My main man Shin's fucking tight, I love the whole idea of him being able to slice people up yet they still live. And yet? He looks like a perfectly normal guy underneath the mask. Again, I love it. And as a bit of a fun fact, Kaiman shares his Japanese voice actor with Okuyasu Nijimura!

Kaiman is the realest nigga, even when he's grumpy he's still a bro. Shin I still like a bunch, he's only second because Kaiman has a semi-dopey personality that I just love. Also because Kaiman recognizes the glory of the Gyoza.

Oh yeah! Nikaido making gyoza was actually what inspired me to cook perogies (faggy inferior gyoza) regularly, trying to improve and see what I could do to make them taste better. God bless that woman.

While the Netflix was overall good, I can't help but be disappointed at how they squandered all the top tier fanservice in the manga, specifically the boobs.
