Part of it is because Doug has a tumblr with anon asks on and he just doesn't respond to/acknowledge any of their complaints. There were a bunch of minor chimpouts from tumblrites in the random tumblr posts thread a while back, and I doubt any of the posters actually got over the fact that he just does not give a shit about them, at all.

The article in question was probably written to coincide with the first game turning 23 years old, so it wasn't an out of nowhere hitpiece. Earthworm Jim isn't a great game, especially for the time period it came out in. The best thing to come out of the series was the animated show that most people aren't even aware of. Of course there's lots of hot opinions on twitter about how everything this guy does sucks and he has no talent and how gods not real and stuff so it's just a shitty situation all around. 9 Volt and others taking such pride in "exposing" Doug grosses me out more than any of the anti-lgbt stuff he himself has said.
