For Christmas Eve I made us Pasta Con le Sarde. It's a Sicilian recipe often eaten around the holidays, with wild fennel, pine nuts, saffron, and raisins over bucatini. It's best with whole fresh sardines but those are hard to find, so I used my favorite canned ones, Polar smoked brislings. It was delicious.

Tomorrow is a whole roast duck with Amarena cherry sauce, smashed garlic potatoes, caramelized cabbage with shallots, and roasted broccolini with lemon.

Salisbury steak, mashed taters, roasted broccoli and carrots, rolls, and applesauce Jello salad. And LOTS of cookies. I planned to make a few different kinds this month(Shortbread the other week, pan-banging oatmeal cookies earlier this week, and tomorrow chocolate crinkles) but we also got gifted several more kinds. And there's a lot of candy. And beer.

I just grabbed what I had. So boneless chicken breasts, these krinkle cut butternut squash things, and some poppyseed dressing.
I steamed the chicken and use taco bell seasoning as a dry rub. Chased with hearty ice water.

Beef slow-cooked with red wine, carrot, red onion and celery, some roast potatoes, honey roast parsnips because they're the most delicious thing, pigs in blankets (the uk kind) and then some sorta store-bought stuffing. We got the beef decently cheap because work was selling off meat they hadn't used before they closed during the impromptu lockdown, good carvery shit.
Also sherry trifle for dessert because I'm a glutton on Christmas
I was gifted some sorta strawberries and cream baileys so I might try that this evening too

I'm making roast beef with carrots and potatoes.
I might make some broccoli or green beans if the need for a green vegetable can't be overcome with laziness.
Cornbread might get made shortly if I can muster the energy.
Chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting for desert.

When I fed the wild birds and squirrels I put some mixed nuts and dried fruit out as well as the usual corn and seeds. It's cold as balls out there so I wanted to make it worth the time and effort to haul their fat lil' selves to the feeders. Also fresh water. The dish keeps freezing over and needing to be changed.

Of course! This is the recipe I'm going to try today, it's from 100 Cookies by Sarah Kieffer. I've already messed it up and put a full stick of butter instead of half with the chocolate chips, so I doubled the chips too to compensate. We'll see how it works out!

We have like three handwritten recipes in a binder that we were looking through, my great-great grandmother made amazing chocolate crinkles and we've been trying for ages to figure out which one of the recipes is hers. The recipe I think is her handwriting matches with this magazine page. She would have left out the nuts though.

Ugh. Trying not to PL but long story short I live with my bf and his mom. The mom is...getting older and acts like it. Bf’s brother is over for Christmas too, and he’s...a little slow. Not necessarily a bad thing for either but it can get annoying.

Me and bf had got a spiral cut ham and intended to cook it for dinner. Had it in the fridge thawed and everything. We thought we clearly mentioned that to the other two. We even planned on making mashed potatoes and salad to go with it, and rolls. Me and bf come home from doing an errand and what do you know. They just made spaghetti and meat sauce, cooked some frozen garlic bread and threw our spinach into a bowl with bacon bits on top (not even mixed in). Okay, I guess I’ll eat that. But nope. Pasta wasn’t drained, just sitting in it’s water to get soggy. Spaghetti sauce had an ungodly amount of sugar in it. Couldn’t eat it. At least garlic bread is garlic bread.

I’ll probably make a sandwhich later and munch on Christmas cookies. I’m probably an ingrate but this Christmas has been mentally exhausting in general.

That looks like a crinkle cookie a friend makes with red velvet cake mix. Those are pretty good.
