Reviews are staring to come in and apparently its good. Anyone else fearing a trainwreck like Dragon Age 2?

DA2 received high eighties - to low nineties across the board when it was released so... yeah, EA knows money talks.

Also it's Bioware.

I hope it's good but I don't see myself buying it any time in the foreseeable future. DA2 kind of made me not want to play any DA game again. The setting feels so dead to me.

Yes, but almost no-one who wasn't a critic liked it. Popular opinion says it's a trainwreck and I kind of agree.

I'm going to post this here and not in the Bioware thread...

I've been looking for Inquisition reviews, and very much like the DA2 reviews. All of the ones I've found have been very positive (similar to when DA2 came out). It'll probably take a bit more time for more "negative" reviews to come out, but this one in Forbes is the first one I've found where a reviewer talks about things he didn't like:

http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkai...ition-and-the-problem-with-roleplaying-games/

The reviewer seems to have enjoyed Dragon Age: Origins about as much as I did, so it was interesting to read. It's not that I want to hate DA:I, but I don't want to sink $60 into a game that will make me sperg-out negatively like DA2 did.

I heard rumors about their DRM destroying hard drives or something. Anyone know anything about that?

I have been playing it for PC and my experience has been positive so far, the only real issue is the broken installer on the physical release

Same. It's definitely different and I feel like it's been rather consolized, but apart from gripes relating to that, mostly in terms of the control scheme being a bit hard to get used to and the UI being annoying, I've been enjoying the game. As long as you don't go 100% completionist and stay in the starting area to complete every single sidequest (protip: don't. There's about a million of them, and most of them aren't particularly interesting. My advice is to just dip in, do some stuff, then continue the storyline when you're at the recommended strength/level etc) it's all rather enjoyable and I'm willing to forgive the game for the gripes I do have with it.

I can't promise that everyone will like it, as it is rather different from the way dragon age used to be, but personally I'm enjoying it so far.

My advice would be to just look at some youtube stuff, maybe early videos from let's plays that won't spoil a bunch of stuff, rather than highly edited reviews. (or wait for totalbiscuit's review. He usually goes pretty in-depth) and see if you think the gameplay would appeal to you before sinking money into it.

I'm too OCD not to complete all the quests lol. I am ten hours in just doing side stuff in the Hinterlands. However, this is not a bad thing. I love exploring the world and finding all sorts of cool things, reading the bits of lore you find. Regarding the Forbes review, I can't agree that this is all too tedious. The world is so well designed, I end up exploring every nook and cranny and I have found so much crafting material I cannot even use it all. The shit is fucking everywhere. I think my one big gripe with the game and I can agree with the guy in Forbes on this, is that it is a bit too easy. But I really enjoy crafting. I really like that you can use different materials to customize your gear, this is something I really like.

It's 2020 and I just got into playing this game.

Remember that hamburgerhelper dev who said she wished she could skip the game and go right to the story stuff? I think about her a lot when I play this game because I feel exactly the same way about DA:I's utterly boring and sub-mediocre RPG. This game convinces me that the devs are wasting their time and money when they could just make interactive stories instead. Probably a lot cheaper to make than having to justify a full RPG experience that isn't very good.

Just about the only thing that isn't a step backwards from origins is graphical fidelity and class balance, and even then I would still argue that origins is a better looking game that's more expressive and moody in its design than all of the slick shimmering surfaces and comparatively sterile environments in Inquisition. The whole game honestly suffers for the "Open-world" conceit that rings hollow for a game constantly cut up by visible loading screens anyway.

I bought this on sale for ten bucks and I still regret not just buying Origins instead...

You don't want to imagine how disappointed I was going from Origins to DA2 in terms of the RPG mechanics. I had absolutely no reason to enjoy the game itself, and I went through it only so I could get to the next game. Inquisition brought the RPG stuff back a little bit, but it still was far from how the first game was. I want a fucking Persuasion skill to unlock new dialogue options, dammit.

The open world in Inquisition is straight-up awful, you're right with that. The vast majority of the quests are just finding 10 things scattered around the map, repeated dozens of times. In at attempt to avoid any sort of bad ending, I went through as many of those quests as I could, and it really didn't make any difference in the end.

What part are you at in the story now? I went through all three game over the course of about a year, and Inquisition is still a little fresh in my mind.

I just got the mages and Ironbull, fiddled around with some of the side-quests. I wanna see how this ends because I do kinda like the actual story, but its hard to slog through the game to get there.

The story was a hell of a lot more engaging than DA2, that's for sure. I actually really liked the post-game DLC, but that should be the very last thing you do since it locks you out of everything else.

Iron Bull is built for the same playstyle as my main character (two-handed melee), so I didn't typically use him, but it was fun to craft pretty much the same build as me and let him rip while doing side quests.

Also, AFAIK you don't get any bonuses for having more Power than you need (the stuff you spend to start certain quests), so you can definitely skip some of the more grindier quests. I'd only recommend trying to do every quest if you want to be 100% certain you can beat every fight in the game, provided you also have good enough equipment/potions as well.
