Making this thread here for any Kiwi's that play Dragons Dogma. Now to kinda help kickstart the discussion: Capcom is making some online game that I know wouldn't sit well with many people though there are some interesting things to it (one of the characters in it isn't just a being who may be similar to Daimon in being a winged humanoid beast but also another Berserk reference).

Another interesting thing to note for any Kiwi's that like to play the game but don't have the consoles or do have the consoles but more interest in PC is that the Dark Arisen version of Dragon's Dogma is getting a PC port in January of 2016.

I really liked Dragon's Dogma but I don't have any faith in Capcom doing something positive with the franchise (if you can really call it that). It was made at a time where Capcom had really fucked up sales projections directing them and I get the feeling that it's kind of colored as a failure internally despite one of their most interesting new IPs. I feel like whatever they do moving forward will be too far removed from what I liked about the game.

I might end up getting the PC version of Dark Arisen as a show of interest and also to have it on a system I actually play these days.

Dragon's Dogma was one of the better new IPs they generated across last generation. I would really like to see them continue the franchise, but given how badly they fared as a company I'm doubtful it will happen.

Not looking forward to Deep Down though.

One thing I kinda wonder about the PC version they are making is how bad it might end up. By that I mean what sort of bugs or glitches could come in. Is resolution going to be locked and uncustomizable. Will be badly optimized? Still, I do like see how Dragons Dogma can be in the hands of PC gamers.

Deep Down still looks like a total mess.

Back on topic, what vocations did you guys like playing? I had a lot of fun with either Ranger or Assassin but could never quite get into the mage roles.

Considering Deep Down, I think the last thing said about it was that it was put on hold. Not much interest in it, especially since I hear it's gonna be an MMO sort of thing but I would like to hear that one song they use for one of the 2013 trailers (find it to be a bit catchy).

As for favored vocations, my first Arisen was pretty much fighter and fighter related vocations all the way up to Savan. It wasn't until a new Arisen whose final boss wasn't anyone save Savan (I made a new file since I felt like wanting to play without being OP) that I discovered the joy of being a strider. Hell, with a kunai and skull splitter, I pretty much one shotted the dragon. Pretty anti-climactic but it did feel refreshing in beating something with a weapon that isn't a sword. Also enjoyed magick archer since it made some BitterBlack enemies easier such as executors (the bull helmet barbarian guys) though warrior can also cheese them (I got one of the Bitterblack twohanded hammers). Speaking of warrior, I did enjoy playing as one that looks like a barbarian.

One thing to mention, anyone have a favorite sort of armor setup for their Arisen and/or Main Pawn?

Dragon's Dogma will always have a special place in my library.

My normal character is a strider that climbs on monster as their primary strategy. My first descent into Bitterblack made me change into a magic archer though. I haven't seriously played the game in a while but whenever I pop it in I have been running around as a fighter that I tried to make look like a crusader type character.

One thing to mention, anyone have a favorite sort of armor setup for their Arisen and/or Main Pawn?

My main pawn wears parts of the swordsman set mixed with iron boots and arms and a dragon knight helm. Funnily enough he still has the first pair of pants I gave to him on. While my Strider wears red leather armor, a feral cape, the eye patch, a kilt, and the emissary bracers. Their armor has only subtly changed throughout my playthroughs, the only time I really mix it up is on Bitterblack. If I could I would make the Elite Knight set or Faraam set from Dark Souls.

I LOVED Dragon's Dogma so so much. Shame that the MMO is Japan only and will always be because Capcom are idiots.

Considering Elite Knight, as much as this won't match style, I may as well take a shot:
clothing: chainmail , trousers that match the look
arms: iron armguard (or meilorean armguard if the coloring doesn't bother you
armor: surcoat (the blue one may work), hero's cuisses (dlc armor. is available in Dark Arisen as well), or iron cuisses
head: chimeric armet (horns and coloring will clash but this helmet may as well be one of the closest in terms of looks for elite knight).

I know the look will be off but that may as well be the only way to kinda get some semblance. May as well use the orilux shield since it's closer to the look of one of the elite knights shield in terms of shape. As for swords, my mind goes for bastard sword if simply because of the crossguard having some semblance to the Astora sword's crossguard.

For Faraam, the legs may as well be easy
legs: pants like say seeker tights should do well unless denim hosen might be good. boot armor should be steel toed boots since it looks similar to faraam boots in looking plain (speaking of Faraam, how is that pants and boots as heavy as Vengarls? The latters can be excused as heavy quilting.)
armor: closest thing to it may as well be white hawk half-plate
clothing: gambeson. Closest there is in terms of blue fabric type of clothes
misc: feral cape. they are the only pelts worn as capes.
helmet: hard to find something compatible with faraam set look. Sallets are the only visored sort of metal headgear but they lack the helmet crest. Otherwise, use whatever helmet you want.

These are all mostly based on the vanilla game. Might look into Dark Arisen later if anything there might help.

Heard about the game. From what I read, they did have an enemy that was more of a Zodd reference than Daimon was along with having orcs and a dragon that wasn't trying to destroy kingdoms. Kinda wonder why Zodd reference is an enemy and if the PC is a human or a pawn.

But will the PC port fix the fucked up affinity system?

I'd definitely love a better performance out of the PC port. Given how poorly it ran on the PS3, it made it seriously difficult for me to enjoy - which is a shame, given how many nifty things I heard about the game before and after picking it up.

I honestly do wonder how bad it ran since the worst I had with the PS3 version was just my pawns being idiots (which is more tied with what you chose when making them) along with the affinity system.

Dragon's Dogma has some awesome combat! I usually played as a Mystic Knight or a Magick Archer. I dunno what to make of the online game, if it's ever brought over here (especially since the last time I checked it didn't have an Xbox port) but I'd play it if I could.

I've heard a lot of people complain about how the story is lacking, but like Skyrim (which I also love) it's one of those games where there's actually a lot more going on underneath if you just look. There's a story being told with the environment. It's one of those games where you do need to follow the age-old advice of "talk to everyone."

Kinda like how hearing some of the gossip hints early on that
Duke Edmun never slew the Dragon. He made a deal with it.

I kinda like subtle storytelling.

The affinity system did leave much to be desired, though. Especially considering there were some... unfortunate implications, going by how the NPCs are made with the same character creator as the protagonist and pawn.

I had an assassin. Super OP (you only really need that kind of power for the ur-dragon). It sucks that you have only one character. I ended up backing up my guy on a memory stick and making a jack-of-all-trades character with balanced stats, so I could play any character type. I also made the new character tiny, so the only people who really see eye to eye with her are children and that one midget from the castle.

The best ending plotwise is:
Dragon: Come at me bro!
Arisen: No.

I second the affinity system. It's very easy not to even know it exists until it shows up at that one part and then this happens

Or this.

Doesn't help that even with the Arisen's Bond it doesn't lock in the one you want.

Ah Dragon's Dogma. One of my favorite console games of all time. I was definitely one of those nerds that played until I had a level 200 character with all end game gear, with a Q.T.3.14 pawn that was raking in millions of RC points. My MC was pretty much everything except magic (which trusty pawn handled), but was sortov an Assassin/Ranger hybrid.

I wish it would get ported to PC but yea, I have no faith in Capcom to pull this off. For the record I highly recommend Dark Arisen. It's practically essential for a full experience. The boss fights, which are the bread and butter of this game, get turned up to 11. Especially after the 1st play through. Remember the 3 smaller dragons you'd fight in vanilla, one at a time? Well now you fight all of them at once, and they're stronger. And don't even get me started on those damned gorecyclops. And that reaper :stress: .

In regards to story spoilers, it helps make sense as to why Pawns can't go into the court of the Duke. Such as thing would be scandalous. As for story, it is one you do have to look into, especially after you defeat the dragon. Said story is something that can no doubt have to do with cycles (which is mentioned in Coils of Light, the theme for when you fight Daimon in Dark Arisen) and why you have people becoming an Arisen to fight the dragon. As for affinity system and unfortunate implications, one case in note would be Symone, Fournivals daughter who romancing with any Arisen that doesn't look like a kid hero would make one wonder if pedophiles might like this.
