DSP Streaming Consultants LLC. - Where peepul tell DSP how he should run his channels

Twitch is rapidly getting mainstream, with social media whales like Jake Paul (Thread) opening accounts, Drake streaming Fortnite with Ninja..etc, this could mean that true and authentic peepul like Phil are in danger of getting left behind by the big shots, or even permabanned when Twitch decides to further clean-up shop to attract more celebrity interest and "legitimize" themselves.

All this got me thinking.. I always see people in the megathread discussing/analyzing Phil's various decisions as a streamer, like when it comes to games he would stream or not stream, how he orients his sub/Patreon goals or what positioning he should seek out as a Twitch streamer, how he should moderate his community to enable sub growth and make it as welcoming as possible..etc.

What I have in mind is different from the DSP Loan & Savings thread because that one is about finances: the cahndos, the taxes and the debt. It is also different from the Real Criticism thread, because while that covers some of the above, it's also intended to be a general feedback thread that discusses Phil as a person, and thus is too general for the kind of in-depth discussions we often have about Phil's streaming decisions.

Plus, given the revelation that Phil may be reading here, I think it's only nice and fair to provide the chad king of hate with a concise thread to get our nuggets of autism wisdom in one place, no?

So, let's start off with this week's schedule:

I hope that we take up the habit of x-posting any upcoming schedule changes, rage quits..etc in here as well.

Also added in for your convenience is this week's WiP video:

@neger psykolog please let me know if the thread's scope is acceptable/clear enough.

Its cool, just a note that if people post off topic shit in here then it'll be deleted. This is the thread to talk about streaming and not dutch catfishing espionage stories or whatever else.

I don't follow twitch too much now, but when I did, I liked guys like ProtonJon who played games, no matter the quality, and BEAT them. No one likes watching you get far in a game, then blue ball the audience at the final boss (Persona 3)

Some points that come to mind:

- I really don't understand why DSP insists on having long-ass prestreams where he drones on and on about his issues, it may be useful for (re)conditioning his existing viewers, but it is terrible for any new person to sit through.

- I don't get why someone like Phil doesn't have a release schedule ready at hand to schedule games as he goes, every gaming site has those, and you can gauge the hype when it comes to new releases by checking out Twitter and gaming forums, this to me seems like a better use of his time than 2 hour prestreams.

- I also don't get why DSP would play games that he actively hates, if you're not enjoying the game, then your interactions will definitely be perceived as negative because you will look surly and unrespectful to your audience.

The prestream length thing can't be said enough, but its also been said so many times, not just on here, but also on TKOH as well as DSP's Twitch. He's never really addressed why they are so fucking long, and even his "short" prestreams which are like 30-45 minutes are still ridiculously long when he's put out a schedule saying he'll be playing video games.

I know this is hilarious in typical Phil fashion, but it got me thinking..

I have experience in corporate workplaces, and I know Phil has corporate experience as well, and anyone who ever worked in corporate knows the unspoken rule: "Don't commit to anything unless you can/will do it", for example, don't tell Jack from accounting that you will send him an analysis sheet this afternoon unless you know you can actually get it done, otherwise you will get angry emails with CC's to your direct line manager.

Now with this in mind, why would Phil even commit to Sea of Thieves without at least getting an idea on how it worked? I almost guarantee that's why he fails so much as a streamer. He is ridiculously incompetent.

During the fake hooker saga, someone said that Phil loves holding court, and I think that is the closest thing to the real reason, because there is literally no business or entertainment reason for it, it's basically troll fuel at this point.

And you coming up with the transcriptions idea gives trolls even less of a reason to check it out when they can simply read it or perform the analytics on the raw text.

That's one of the things he'd have to do beyond just picking games, is actually researching them to a minimal level and knowing what he's going to be doing for at least the first steps. It applies much less to AAA games like Call of Duty, but any game where mechanics are key its really important.

Phil should drink Fabreeze on stream and tweet the results later. And it would still be less disgusting than any of his fast food reviews.

In all seriousness though, Phil should drop gaming and just deliver drama. He should do a political channel like he originally wanted or just something to shitpost rants on. His gaming shtick is dead.

I am honestly wondering why he wouldn't just watch gameplay videos before picking the games, I don't even mean waiting for other streamers to do it first, I mean looking at the developer preview videos that are on YouTube, searching for the games on Twitter, outright asking his fans what they think he should consider...etc.

Phil would be better off not listening to his current viewers and pulling a Forsen. Just let the cancer flow and cash the checks

Partly because he has no friends and an extremely isolated social life. Who are the people he speaks to, shoots the shit with? He has no one.

Have you ever had something happen to you and wanted to tell someone else? That's Phil in a nutshell.

Sprinkle in "taxes" and whatever other bullshit and there's the perfect recipe for a DSPhail prestream.

He needs to get rid of the pre-prestream songs entirely. They're objectively bad.

Prestream songs are fucking cancer and I don't think I've seen anyone like them

See I could be ok with 30 min prestreams, IF his prestreams were talking about his schedule for the day, what he was hoping to do, laughing about retarded shit he did yesterday/aims to do today, talking with chat (not letting cheers get backed up) and other gaming news.

But to do this, he has to NOT be negative, NOT be a whiny baby, NOT bitch about money and briefly talk about how to support his work ('And lastly before we get started, if you enjoy the stream, you can support me via x')

This is a few suggestions, if I streamed I know this is some rough guidelines I might follow because it doesn't breed a bad environment.

Does he have to read EVERY single tip/cheer?

I know lots of streamers have automated text readers for this kind of stuff, but it seems that Phil likes to hear his own voice.

He does that to filter troll cheers or something. It's why he should go full on cancer stream. His audience is mostly trolls anyway.

I think that, for one, he has/had no one else to talk to (friends, etc.) and enjoys ruling over his little Kingdom of Hate by conversing with his subjects and dispensing True and Authentic™ wisdom.

For another, I wonder if he isn't doing it for the fan interaction (read: money). *snort* "Shout out to Papalou who just cheered 50 bits and says 'I'll call you daddy, Phil'. Well all right, there you go then."

I don't suppose anyone knows the breakdown of how much subs, cheers, and tips he gets during pre-stream vs gameplay, do they?

I wrote this in the megathread about how DSP is currently streaming far too much which has resulted in not only him being burnt out but also all of his viewers:
I think its more that he's been playing games for a decade non-stop. For a game to not be boring to someone like that, it literally has to reach out of the screen and inject dopamine directly into their bloodstream.

Its also part of the problem when you fucking stream 7 days a week for 8 hours a day. DSP obviously sees it as "more streaming = more income" when in reality even his diehard fans get immediately bored from so much "quality content".

So he's not only burnt himself out but he's also burnt every single one of his viewers out. To counter this he should really only be streaming 3-4 days a week at the very most to try and counter this or streaming only once on certain days.

He should also try and stream something else besides video games like doing cooking or basically anything besides video games.

He also schedules all his sessions as being 4 hours long which doesn't really make any sense. He'd probably get the same or even more "interaction" if he streamed a lot less than he does.

I hugely agree, especially about the part where you discuss DSP's own burnout, he is clearly in need of a long vacation (like an actual vacation, not that staycation stuff he did), the problem here is that he is financially trapped and has to constantly keep streaming, like a mouse in one of those rat wheels.

Hosting HD video is one thing, actually getting advertisers to even consider you and managing to keep a good relationship with them is a completely different thing, and its even more difficult than managing servers.

No advertiser or sponsor would probably ever go near DSP because of not only his reputation but also the way he's acted around sponsors and people in the past. He can't even avoid talking shit about YouTube who is his main source of income.

Someone like Linustechtips is someone who knows well about building an audience and also diversifying from YouTube income:

You can easily see how much importance he puts on stuff like "building trust". They review stuff and DSP plays games but its still a very important concept that DSP never pays attention to.

DSP couldn't even play Mario Sunshine on schedule and came up with a bunch of excuses about why he didn't want to. DSP can't even manage his forums to keep his own moderators around or even users. He's also had a whole bunch of suspicion around his tax situation and whether or not he spent money on moving his girlfriend in.

If DSP can't even commit to playing games after being paid to do so, can't even manage moderators or stop slapfights from happening and can't even address valid criticism over his fundraising then him going broke has little to do with YouTube and more to do with him not giving a shit about building trust with his audience.
X-posting because it's good advice.

Neger, would you give Phil TRUE and AUTHENTIC advice if he pays you an hourly fee?
