With what's pictured, I'd like to envision this: what wasting $1000 does to you when you dwell on it for too long, while having little to show for by yourself... I know a number of cwc-originated individuals who had no problem not only laughing at Chris for years, but I've lost count of the number of times I've heard them say nigger, faggot, queer, etc. in conversation. Suddenly gamergate and Trump's campaign gain steam, and boom, now the message becomes "my history of behavior that we never had a problem with before but is now retroactively unapproved becomes excusable because I aim to destroy anyone and everyone who is the same as I am, but won't make as much of a show of prostrating themselves to the altar as I now am". I guarantee the socjus crusade that ate SA and neogaf and other such places is born of the same me-doth-protest-too-much virtue signaling that really serves only one effective purpose: to deflect the spotlight away from their own sins. It's part and parcel of why socialism can't work - because any attempt at a government based on moral authority necessarily relies on turning neighbors into snitches, which means the so-called classless society they claim to aim for is a lie - they need an eternal underclass, and that underclass is always the people who aren't popular with the ruling party. A guy like Dstecks turning on his "problematic" fans and professing "I was always this far socialist everybody, I swear I was" is a phenomenon cut from the same cloth as is the phenomenon of your neighbor reporting your problematic thoughts and activity to the stasi, hoping that they get enough goodboy points for doing so to buy themselves an indulgence when the mob inevitably comes their direction.

It's like buying indulgences from the church because they know it's impractical to spend life avoiding the "sins" of the church - but rather than stand up with some courage and tell the church to stuff it, they'd prefer to just selfishly buy their own way out, and the price they pay takes the form of condemning someone else: guilt is the currency that socjus runs on just like any other church, and they don't care where you get yours so long as you give them their tithe. So of course the Dstecks and voidburgers and FAUs of the world will prefer to pay the boss out of someone else's wallet. Hedging their bets is the only cowardly thing they're willing to do because the mob operates on being both nebulous and implacable - because if you can define the mob of social justice such that you know concrete positions it stands by, and therefore the positions that it will always be safe for you to profess, then it loses its power to keep you eternally on a precarious defensive footing. The scariest thing a socialist can face is a fair fight.

Tl,dr: I didn't know much about Dstecks before this thread, but what I see posted here is all stuff I recognize in other socialist cowards I do know.

I'm just relieved to hear he has a job worth being proud of, honestly. All he needs to do now is lose some weight - he'll live longer and his relationship will be much more fulfilling in doing so. Other than that, that's all sobering to hear. Very sobering.

This is very true.

I think there's two basic types of people in the troll group, and that dichotomy is a big part of the reason for the troll's remorse cases and extremist divides: one is the general skeptic type who is attracted to trolling because they think it's fun and good to just shit on the status quo people who feel safe in believing they're always right. This, I would argue, is the more sensible type of person. The second type is the one who is that type to believe their politics are always correct and above questioning - a lot of these came in during that early period you describe where right-wing christian fundamentalism was all over the place; these trolls hated those people but mistakenly thought the winds would never change. The differences were always there, but just sat under the radar because of our priorities at the time.

So the first type and the second type initially got along fine, because both sides were likely to say something like, say, gay marriage should be legal because who gives a shit what people do privately. But the split came when the second type had to latch on to crazy crap like giving troon drugs to children and punching conservatives because they always believed that extremism isn't bad itself, it's just that no one else should be allowed to be extreme - and the first type kept saying "wait a minute, extremist bullshit is bad no matter who is saying it and we're all susceptible", so when their mutual enemy in radical conservatives became less relevant, a split formed. In other words: one side had sense and perspective, and kept true to their stated belief that not lording morality over people was desirable, while the other is a group of self-serving frauds who want the power that comes from perceived moral superiority and will behave in very immoral ways to get it.
