Splitting this off from the general TTRPG thread, because this subforum needs more activity.
Talk about your favorite edition, favorite stories, best/worst games you've run or played in, good homebrew, ect.
I really like 3.5 edition, for the sheer amount of options and material available. 5E is okay, and I like the simplifications to the gameplay and general streamlining of it.

From the current campaign that I am playing in, I used the Freeze spell on a bunch of missiles and launched it into the reptilian pirate's spaceship. It destroyed the device that controlled the climate in the ship, blasted a huge hole into the ship itself, and caused the inside of the ship to freeze, along with a good amount of the atmosphere outside of the ship.

Let's see the past few sessions at the local game shop have been a comedy of errors.
A few highlights:
> My character freaking out over a bar/barkeep that had a rat problem, served poisoned ratshit ale, kept a quest item in the basement and forgot to tell me that the chest was a mimic. Lucky for me I help from a bloodthirsty and stealthy spider.
> While this is going on another character is trying a string of failed negotiations at a blacksmith. He gets something eventually (and then pickpockets me).
> Later the aforementioned character desperately tries to obtain a sword that he can not wield. DM makes him search for 20 (in game) minutes in the water for his scattered weapons.
> That was a side continuity. Back in the main one we are in the lair of a half human/dragon. Instead of searching the remaining area, most of the party gets distracted by a well and the gold in it. They spend 30 real minutes trying to deal with the corpse down there (burning and freezing it) and trying to get to the bottom of the well. A dragon in our party fails to shimmy down and falls. Another character throws a rope down to him (without tying it to something). If I remember right another character also falls down there. We get them out and they only got 84 gold out of it (that almost got thrown back down the well).

I love D&D and I've been aching to DM a campaign for a long while now.

I'm thinking of running a campaign over Discord some time in the near future. I'm thinking of running a campaign set in either Ravenloft or a custom setting of my own.

As for rules systems, I will probably be using 3.5 or Pathfinder, so I better brush up on the rules for those. I'm a little rusty.

My favorite was Thora Birch in the 2000 movie.

I don't understand why there are different editions. Why doesn't the DM just make his own rules? Isn't that the point?

I was not, for whatever reason, expecting the D&D player base to be as concentratedly autistic as it has appeared thus far.

Meh, nerdy pursuits like t-rpgs tend to attract social misfits and outcasts. Best you can do is to try start games with people you already know or people you trust if you want to definitively avoid any :autism:. God help you if you try to play or start up an online game though.

I like 4E's power breakdowns, lack of need for autismal record keeping, and the damn near impossibility to make a bad character or bad party. But almost everything else except minions is hot garbage if you don't bolt on significant homebrew & do the recommended AC/HP exchange on the monsters.

Poll needs an option for Hackmaster 4th Edition.

Failing that, 2E, narrowly over 1E. Both are good, both have some strengths that the other does not. I think 1E has a better atmosphere in general, but I like some of the mechanical changes and additions with 2E enough to give it the edge. Either one are damned fine games, though.

My group usually played a mashup of 2 and 1 when we DnDed, so Hackmaster was really up our alley, but then we fell apart because getting jobs and lives. :heart-empty:

Warlocks should be a sub-class of Wizard, and Sorcerers shouldn't exist. Neither should Rangers.

Forgotten Realms is shit.

Paladins are far more fun when they're Nietzschen turbo-thugs instead of bland crusaders who cuck themselves to some god.
Sounds like you mostly want to play Pillars of Etern-

Oh wait you said Forgotten Realms is shit. Nevermind. You're fucked.
