a birds eye view of the goblin plight
really wish i had had a chance for finish the funneling walls before the siege hit. most of the lava is going down onto the plain and just condensing the goblins

surprisingly tame, i was expecting more images of death, dwarves and suffering. the siege is broke, all the goblins consumed by fire. i hope with those losses it takes them a long time to recover. and a few migrants arrived right after they, they had to hop between pools of lava to make it through the gate.

Here's the link to the fortress. good luck to whoever is next, the siege is broken and theres a few new dwarves and some old ones who aren't broken husks, but the fort is still full of corpses they wont move.

It's nearly impossible to get anyone to do anything. It takes manipulation with Dwarf Therapist and getting the few functional dwarves to actually do the specific things you want. Next person might want to purge the job manager queue and any queued jobs in workshops and try to get the corpses buried because that by itself is causing much of the stress.
This fortress has yet to make an artifact that wasnt related to the founding of the fort.
Also all the ammo has to be the enemies blasting visitors, nobody has made crossbow dwarves yet.
I’ll go. I haven’t played in years, so this is going to be a shitshow.

So, naturally, the first action I took was to give that dwarf a fitting nickname.
After that, I readied up a bunch of stray animals to be slaughtered, started carving out new resting places for the numerous corpses laying about, and planned out a tunnel down to the water supplies.
And then this happened.

We're quickly descending into a tantrum spiral as our dorfs either start chimping out, stumbling around talking to ghosts, or trying to neck themselves.
All within about 5 minutes real time.
I could already tell that this was going to be fun.

Nah, this is just how this place is normally. Note, there's a therapeutic bridge you can use to treat their angst.
You can train most things that aren't completely mindless or sapient.
Sure but why during all the child murder, ghost busting, goblin melting, shaft dropping, miasma making, dehydration deaths, and chimpouts did somebody designate an animal training zone and use it to teach a rat.
Pretty sure that was me. Look at what a hellhole this fort was. I just thought maybe having some pets might cheer people up. Get off my case motherfucker!
I also didn't set up the animal training zone it was already there.
Also a note about this particular DF version. You will never fix any dwarves losing their minds. They're gone. They're finished. There are quite literally bugged stress mechanics in 0.44.12.

Also yeah actually do that. Pretty sure I did do a mass adoptable thing at some point, but seriously it can't hurt, and it's not like we need so much food that just slaughtering them like we are is an efficient use of labor. I had mass slaughter queues set up when I quit, too. This is a fort of schizophrenia.

I also queued up almost everything that wasn't owned for slaughter, except for a few cats. the issue is that the animals are so numerous that they breed almost as fast as the few still sane dwarves can slaughter them. which is why i also stuffed a bunch of them into a cage to starve to death.
it was a simpler time, back when there were still a few suicidal children and riots and tantrums were a weekly thing instead of a daily occurence.

The thing that absolutely blows my mind (from the really old days just after 3D) is how absolutely LONG this fort is surviving in a complete shitstorm.
