That's the thing about an abusive relationship. The abuser knows how to manipulate the person they're abusing with just the right amount of physical/psychological damage and then reinforce it with dependency. They berate, insult and harm them just to follow through with intimacy and feigned weakness. The abuser knows how to use this to their advantage, too, and can often re-establish connections via feigned weakness to garner sympathy from the victim. It's how a lot of spouses get sucked into bad relationships. If you ever heard the phrase 'You don't know them like I do' chances are that person is an abusive relationship but's been convinced that deep down inside being the victim is somehow helping the asshole they're with.

And, no matter where you go in the world, pedophiles tend to not do well in prison.
