According to the Canada Border Services Agency, the katana is permissible but "replica firearms" like the airsoft guns are not.

I don't believe you go through "customs" when you simply drive over the border. There's a border checkpoint where he may or may not get his car searched. I doubt they'll care very much about this tard with his bag full of pringles and his airsoft gun. They might take it if they care, but probably won't go further than that, and that's assuming the border agents are bored enough to search him.

Legality of owning an airsoft gun in a specific country and legality of transporting an airsoft gun across national borders are two very, very different things.
