There's no rule that says your parents have to be there in order to participate in graduation ceremonies. But I suspect this is less, "It's just not worth it to be there without Mom and Dad in the audience, and I'm heartbroken about that," than, "Mom and Dad aren't paying for it, and I have no friends left to celebrate with (because I've driven them all away by being an obnoxious wokescold)."
I'm still amazed at how a theatre major has made it all the way through to graduation without ever learning to read naturally and convincingly from a script. Sure, she's into theatre tech, not performance, but I am sure that somewhere along the line, in her life as a dramafag, she took at least one acting class.
Some of us spend our lives actively working on humility and avoiding vanity. I don't want to know my "full aesthetic potential" because it doesn't matter. What matter are acts. She puts this weird emphasis on being regarded as handsome, pretty, cute, beautiful, attractive, etc. I appreciate the fat activitists who want to help fat people be part of things and live a full life, even if some of their notions are misguided. She's just a narcissist.
Not only is it hypocritical, it's wrong. Humans have evolved from other primates to interpret all kinds of nonverbal information that comes from incredibly subtle behavioral cues, nearly imperceptible facial expressions and demeanor, and learned associations. Ever had an experience where the hair on the back of your neck stood up whenever a particular person was around, seemingly without good reason, only to be vindicated weeks, months, or years later by their doing something heinous? What about cues that tell you someone is agitated and you'd best keep your distance? If you ride public transit, you've probably had a feeling that you should avoid sitting next to a particular person, even if they were calm and placid at the time.
