Just so I can get this straight in my mind:

If Trump vetoes the bill, it can be passed anyway by a 2/3 majority.
If Trump vetoes the bill, he'll be blamed for gov't shutdown and people not getting any money.
If Trump signs the bill but redlines it and asks for 600 to be changed to 2k, Congress can agree or disagree; it's likely the bill still passes intact.

Seems to me this is throwing the mess back to Congress and making them solely responsible for the stinking pile of garbage bill. It also seems to me that the ire is being thrown in the wrong direction. Congress wrote the bill, passed it without reading it, and filled it with pork. But let's keep blaming Trump for everything.
That's the problem with America. We don't teach Civics in school so most people don't actually know how shit works. The media plays their part of making the President look like a sovereign while everyone else is just some sort of noble who asks the King to please agree with them. Because people are too fucking stupid to hold the proper people accountable (their Governors, Senators, and Congressmen); they yell, cry, and scream about how the King is a bad man.

For decades, sports was used as a circus and cake distraction for the American population to not get organized and fight back against the bullshit DC and local government was doing.
Says a lot about where the country is at that this past year, sports was largely taken away and the fucking over of the public only increased.
We do not have an encouraging future ahead.

The House of Representatives voted to raise the individual check amount from $600 to $2000. 40+ Republicans joined with the Democrats to give it the 2/3rds majority to pass.

It'll now move on to the Senate. It's very unlikely that Senate Majority/Republican Leader Mitch McConnell will bring the bill to the floor for a vote without some arm twisting.

To that end, it's been speculated that McConnell promised Trump that he'd bring it to a vote if Trump signed the recently passed COVID/Omnibus bill (which he did).

If that's not true, Bernie Sanders has said that he will stop the fast tracking of the Defense Bill override unless the $2000 check measure is put up for a vote. Bernie Sanders can't stop the override attempt on the Defense Bill completely, but he can delay it and keep the Senate in session until January 1st. That would also keep the two Republican Senate Candidates in Washington as opposed to campaigning in Georgia.

I think we will see a vote. Will it pass? That's up to the Republicans. If they don't vote it through, it's going to out the two Republicans in the Georigia run-off elections in an incredibly tough position. It's could top the balance of the Senate to the Democrats.

Needless to say, McConnell is in a bad position as are all Senate Republicans.

McConnell has been outmanuvered here IMO.

Not bringing it up for a vote or voting it down is going to look terrible regardless for the Republicans. It could very well cost them Georgia and control of the Senate. Also, any Senator that votes no has a perfect attack ad against them now. Show them voting no interspliced with the insanely long food lines from the covid fallout.

I mean they already don't need any help with that but literally the only reason I've heard it be opposed is that giving people extra money is suddenly spending "too much" despite not cutting any excess spending an any recent Bills passed that would be better used maybe giving people money instead

I agree.

All of this is predictable for a civilization where elected officials don't represent the people who put them in office but rather whichever special interests control them the most.
The public is seen as cattle.
Might as well get ready for full Communism and gather whatever food you can for several months because the ship is sunk.

It isn't communism since it doesn't even pretend to be giving the common people anything. We're seemingly headed toward some unique evil that will hopefully one day join absolutism, Nazism, and communism in the list of evil ideologies. It has the civilizational nihilism of communism and views the poor and middle class as disposable pawns like an 18th century French aristocrat might yet it sells itself using modern Western values like democracy and freedom and promotes liberal ideals like free trade.

The powerful exploit the powerless. It's an iron law of humanity since the guy who was the best hunter made the guy who was a shitty hunter give him his daughters in exchange for meat.

It probably won't be that bad in the end. Just get used to living in the sort of society your average Chinaman or Russkie has lived under for ages. You are prole. You get nothing but what we the enlightened party say you get. Eat your bugs, enjoy your pod, and consoom our entertainment.

As predicted mitch blocked the attempt at unanimous consent for the increase and as promised the Democrats will be holding senate up unless a vote is passed now it's down to if the senate Republicans are allergic to not getting primary'd and double down on the blatant hypocrisy of it costing too much especially with several senators stating openly they will support such a measure or they'll realize that preventing this is a pr backlash of epic proportions and let it through
