Dramacow Emma Sulkowicz / Mattress Girl -

If you've listened to the new or browsed any websites, you've probably come across the story of Emma Sulkowicz. The story goes that she was raped by a fellow male student,Paul Nungesser. After the investigation by the police, they found no evidence that any type of sexual assault occurred. From there shit spiraled.

Sulkowicz began to carry a mattress around campus, attempting some sort of protest. This gained her national exposure while also revealing Nungesser as the accused rapist. Of course everyone immediately began to scream out cries of a mishandled investigation, patriarchy and etc etc. However things started not adding up. Facebook messages between the accused started to become public and it painted a very different picture from the story she was telling.

You see she was almost harassing the guy for sex and at one point was quoted "Fuk me in the butt". Apparently they did have two sexual encounter but they weren't rape. Still though, Emma lugged around that mattress, even getting course credit in one of her classes while doing it, while Paul was harassed daily.

At one point Emma said she wasn't going to carry the mattress to the graduation, the Paul was also attending, but showed up with anyways. Apparently the President of the School declined to shake her hand, as any person would to do to someone who has been carrying around a dirty sex mattress for months.

Yeah. Ruining someone's life to pass a class to get a degree that most likely wont get you anywhere is one way to get out of writing the final term paper.

Probably she was pressured by her parents to go into mechanical engineering in order to make lots of money and her mental illness from this pressure made her decide to fake this and build her identity around a mattress

I wonder whether she ruined her life just as much as the life of that guy

The dean, however, refused to shake her hand. Then again, as I agree with the ED article, I wouldn't want to shake her hand either. I might get slut on it.

In the short run, she's rolling in ass-pats and getting paid for interviews. In the long run, possibly, at best (or worst for us) she'll just be the next Anita.

Depending on some things, that professor may fall under some criminal legal issues aside civil and employment.

The fact she wasn't escorted off for bringing the matress to graduation after both being warned and the policy of no large distracting objects is also odd. Some schools have a policy, you can pass but be denied your graduation or degree with held for antics like that.

Each school has it's own rules or regs with things like that but this may step into an acreddition issue after all this.

The way Nungesser was treated by the university and SJW/feminist-inclined media is disgusting and so is the support Sulkowicz received even from "mainstream/moderate" feminists. I hope he causes major financial damage to the university with his lawsuit to serve as a warning.

That being said, I'm not sure Sulkowicz counts as a lolcow.

I like how her reaction to the lawsuit...which she's not even named in...is "I think it’s ridiculous that Paul would sue not only the school but one of my past professors for allowing me to make an art piece."

Often the way it works is that for your thesis, you sign up for independent study credits with an adviser (that are mostly just a courtesy; I only met with my adviser a few times the semester I wrote my thesis). I think at the undergrad/MA level advisers don't care that much and will sign the signature page to get you out of their hair (Anita got hers signed too and that was "lol I watched TV and now I'm angry but still like Buffy").

I'm not sure how it works in art, the mattress thing is like a one-sentence idea. "I will carry a mattress I was raped on until I am satisfied with the justice system." And that's...it. Is there a paper that goes with this detailing the piece's place in the narrative of performance art and law? It doesn't sound like it. I think she said a single sentence to someone and was awarded a degree for it.

A college professor can pass you at their whim, honestly. Personally know someone who passed a class when he answered (and beat) one of the professor's challenges.
Hell, one of my professors passed me with an "A" because I was the only student to actively debate and talk with her in class, rather than make everything boring. She told me this.

From the messages they made public, they both just look like dumb college kids who would bang anyone for beer with terrible typing skills. I never victim blame, but the messages between the two are pretty damning. (Besides making them both look like idiots.) I don't know if the defense of "she was trying to get him to talk to her and confess" plays if she talked to him like that long before and long after the incident. I don't know what to think here really.
