The rumored prequel would center around the events leading up to the Doom of Valyria, with particular focus on the fallout of colonialism in the Valyrian territories in Sothoryos.

The idea itself sounds like a good opportunity for worldbuilding, expanding on the history provided in The World of Ice and Fire. However, some of the details provided sound a little too on the nose in terms of paralleling real world events... as if they're trying to create an allegory to fit the current political climate. Thoughts?

I would've liked to see Aegon's conquest of Westeros or Robert's Rebellion, going as far back as the Doom of Valyria ensures almost everything will be original content and I am not confident in their ability to not fuck it up. This pretty much guarantees they'd fuck it up:
Diversity:

  • Multiple members of the primary cast are to be played by actors of color. As a result, something like a third to a half of the cast isn't white. It explicitly instructs this in their casting sheets.
  • This also extends to diversity of female and LGBT characters, several of whom are also core cast members.
  • Something like a third to a half of this prequel series is actually set in Sothoryos, George R.R. Martin's fantasy version of Africa, mentioned in ASOIAF and The World of Ice and Fire. Sothoryos and Valyria are the two big axises around which the show revolves: the tension between the capital city and its provinces.
  • The capital of Sothoryos, one of the major settings of the action, is conceptually supposed to be "Roman North Africa", a mix of Carthage and Constantinople, a major port city with a multi-racial society. Looking at a map, I would guess pre-Doom Zamettar.
  • Thus, most of the characters there are "non-white": according to the casting calls, they're looking for variously African, Asian, other groups (it's a very mixed, "melting pot" port city).
  • One of the main characters, a POV core cast member, is a platinum blonde black female dragon-rider - one of her parents was a white Valyrian, the other a foreigner, leading some to deny that she's a "real" Valyrian.
  • One of the other main characters is a self-made former slave, a deceptively matronly-looking Asian woman in her 50s, that's now not only one of the richest citizens but also a major political leader and government intrigue-player.[Quote/]
If this shit is true then it's already disregarding established lore to force diversity shit where it doesn't make sense and make a parallel between African colonialism and Valyria and Sothoryos. Sothoryos isn't Africa, it doesn't even have a native human population and was never a Valyrian province, they had a few prison colonies there, all of them short lived because the place is supposed to be a mostly unexplored jungle hellhole extremely hostile to humanity, full of dinosaurs and horrifying beasts, super diseases and unexplained supernatural shit.

Putting the Valyrians in the role of the ''white oppressor'' is also fucking stupid, they were a blatantly magical race and their role in canon was more that of extremely dickish High Elves, funnily enough one of the groups they persecuted the most were the Andals, the in-universe Germanic analogues from whom most of the lordly houses in Westeros descend from, they were forced to flee and invade Westeros to avoid being enslaved by the Valyrians.

I think GRRM has said that, by the end of ASoIaF, we'll know pretty much everything important about Robert's Rebellion, and that a prequel series covering it would be unnecessary.

The part that stood out the most to me was Valyria supposedly being LGBT inclusive. That sounds as if they'd be going for an obvious allegory about modern day Western nations being the most advanced on LGBT rights but still engaging in imperialistic behavior.

While it may seem as if there's enough stupidity here to write it off as bs, it had been mentioned by Watchers on the Wall, which is usually considered to be fairly reliable (they actually confirmed the S7 leaks if I remember correctly). And honestly, after how bad S7 was I could believe that the prequel series would be a bit "out there."

Anyway, making up a port city that doesn't exist in canon is dumb. If they wanted more "diversity," there's plenty to pull from already existing locations.

That implies the fat fuck is ever going to finish the books, IIRC he even said he wouldn't allow someone else to continue the story in the (very likely) event that he dies before he finishes.
I agree that S7 was bad, the TV show as a whole has been mostly shit since S5 when they went past the books IMO, full of poorly paced, non-sensical and idiotic arcs that disregard the nuance and political intrigue of earlier seasons in favor of fanservice and SHOCKING(tm) moments.

I stopped watching after Season 4, where they essentially ruined the Red Viper, omitted Jaime's revelation to Tyrion about Tysha, and all around bastardized the plot of ASOIAF. These motherfuckers have already spent a significant amount of time blackwashing Game of Thrones, so I hold little hope of this actually being good or not preachy SJW crap.

I was still excited for it up through the end of S6, possibly because I watched before reading, and because I genuinely thought that S7 would finally start answering the bigger questions. I was one of the people who read the spoilers because I couldn't resist, and I remember laughing them off thinking that the actual show couldn't be that stupid. Wrong, sadly.

As for preachy SJW shit, they've already sort of done that by turning the High Sparrow + Faith militant into generic religious ideologues who brutalize gay people and sex workers, and having a cringe worthy scene in which Euron and Jamie discuss how the common folk are brainless morons that'll cheer for any and all public humiliation (which seemed like it was a not so subtle jab at Trump supporters). Pathetically, I've also seen fans unironically say that Westerosi fear of the Dothraki was "xenophobic." Not sure what you mean by "blackwashing" though.
Nah since there's nothing like that in the source material this whole show will be about decrying colonialism.

Wait...they're probably autistic enough they'll miss the point anyway. So you're right.
To be fair, a lot of characters in universe do glorify the Valyrian freehold, and the dragons in general, so it would be a bit understandable if they came to that conclusion.

As for what would piss them off most though, since this would supposedly be about the decline of the freehold leading up to the Doom, this could be seen as playing into the theory that LGBT acceptance and multi-racialism "destroy society."

That doesn't sound preachy at all. Absolutely no hint of a political agenda whatsoever.

By blackwashing I mean they actually took several lightskinned characters and made them black. Xharo Xhoan Daxos (Season 2) was Qartheen (aka tard cum Men) and cast as a black man from the Summer Islands, the pirate Salladhor Saan (either Lysene or Tyroshi) also cast as a black man, and Areo Hotah (Doran's bodyguard hailing from the northern city of Norvos) cast as a black guy. Ironically, there are several black characters in the books, but none of them get any screen time.

I gladly accept :autism: ratings.

So... Will GRRM say anything about this? I can't imagine at the very least him approving of the breaking of the lore he spend building

Euron was the only good thing about Season 7. He was a complete dick to everyone, murdered the shit out of the two most hateful of the Sand Snakes, and fucked with Jaime when he aksed him for some 'brotherly advice' as to whether or not Cersci liked it up the ass.

Unlike everyone else, he was actually having fun. Remember that? Remember when Tyrion, Brienne and Arya's storylines were fun or fucking cool? Now Arya's turned into an unbearable Mary Sue cunt, while Tyrion, Brienne, Varys and basically anyone fucking interesting have been relegated to standing in the background and reacting to shit, like over expensive extras. Fuck the later seasons of Thrones.

Why is Peter Dinklage still getting front billing in the credits, anyways? His whole role now is to give Dany sensible advice which she runs off and promptly fucking ignores.
