MINI ART LESSON
For those of you who don't know art, guidelines are basically a skeleton for whatever you're drawing. Using guidelines prevents the proportions in your drawing from being skewed, the face from making it seem as if your subject just had a stroke, and helps keep your characters looks consistent if you're planning on drawing them more than once. Guidelines for humans usually looks something along the lines of this:
Which is why everyone hates the Devianart hugbox mentality of not offering criticism. If you don't use guidelines your art will turn out looking like these notable examples:
