I don't know why he skimmed so much when talking about Eadweard Muybridge (not even mentioning him by name), even though his studies of a horse galloping technically qualify as a 'motion picture' his work is EXTREMELY vital when discussing the origins of animation which all use similar techniques and is even used to teach the 12 basic principles of animation.

Why would you produce a video about animation history when all you're going to do is steal off Wikipedia?

My guess is because his research is horrible and Mr. Enter really does not know anything about the history of animation. I think he really does not understand who intertwined those two concepts are. I could stress how dumb this is, but he really never did much research on this.

Honestly if he did his research via wikipedia, it would be more accurate. No sadly this guy did his own research and that was his major problem. He knows almost nothing about what he was talking about. That entire video was a waste of time and people learned nothing of value.

If his audience watches it they will have to unlearn everything he "taught" them to have a true understanding of the history of animation.

I did not find his video funny as much as astounding in its poor content. He gets paid money for this thing right, like the guy has a patreon right?

This is amazing.

I don't really know anything about animation myself. What did he get wrong anyways? Aside from telling people that the information can change over time just to hide his lack of evidence.

It is the same concept and the origin point behind "the illusion of motion picture". He glosses over this and ignores this as really the origin point of animation as we know it.

This is a fundimental element of the history of Animation and they guy(Mr Enter) just completely glosses over it and focuses on critiquing old esoteric experimental animation projects.

I can see it now:

"Something I wanted to talk more about in my previous video was...
...and how vital it is to discuss in a video on animation history...
...so I'm going to do that now..."

I think the lesson learned here today is that Enter really knows jack shit about animation, at all.

That said, the video's poorly made. It's not as bad as Mars Needs Moms (nothing can top that one outside of maybe the Pet Sitter Pat video). Beyond the exclusion of Muybridge. The "As we know of" tagline seems to be shoved down the viewer's throat nearly every 10 seconds. On top of that, I think his diction has gotten worse. As he's practically slurring each word that comes out of his mouth.

Overall, while I might not be the most well-versed in animation history (my knowledge pretty much boils down to everything from the mid-1920s onwards to varying degrees). I can say, without any irony, that Enter is far worse at it than I am.

So Enter's trying to prove da h8ers wrong? This is new.
I find it funny how most of his videos seem to be about proving a point rather than, you know, reviewing something. It shows in how biased he is about everything. The same has been said before about Fucking Around, too.
I wonder how far he is from neglecting his video series and just making vlogs whining about things he doesn't like.

At this point, maybe 2 or 3 more episodes.

Alright, thanks, but he does have to get his sources from somewhere, right? He can't just automatically know his information, he has to do research, which is what he did.

I honestly don't believe he put a lot of effort into this video. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if he uploaded this video before he finished researching the topic. Back in college I was one of those people who could write a paper on a book having hardly read it, so I know bullshit when I see it.

It's kinda reminisant of when Chris made the autism awareness videos,
The first one (above) he just read something off Wikipedia to us. The later ones on LBP he did the same thing with his sack boy talking to you and bonus shit he made up (for you Enter only folks, never imply to Chris that Aspergers is similar to "high functioning autism", it's totes fact they aren't even close, and fuck you for possibly thinking that.)

Enter's video is more interesting to see because he edited in the clips he was talking about, and at least he paraphrased the Wikipedia page. It's still not that great but we have an example how it could be worse.

Even when he's describing something he apparently enjoys he sounds pissed off.

He's also terrible at delivering a coherent narrative. It sounds almost like he recorded this all in one shot with nothing more than a hastily scribbled list of shorthand notes. Even though most of these shorts were new to me, I don't feel like I learned anything.
Me neither, and I was already gritting my teeth before I hit "play".

Yes, it's all from Wikipedia. None of it is going to contain any insightful commentary, maybe even tidbits from historians, or quotes from textbooks from a college art history course.
This sort of thing requires years of research. It can't be done in a few days. I don't suppose he even tried this book (it was a bitch to get through the first time around).

I suspect, by the end, he'll try to tie it in to Growing Around and how it's going to break new barriers for animation!
I'm not sure how I want to see him mangle the greatness of Earl Hurd's celluloid techniques.

He talks too fast and needs to script better. The guy is a just constantly doing run on sentences and talking way to fast to the point he is losing his breath.
I wish he would slow down.

It is like a monotone teen voice running 90 mph into nowhere.
Could you imagine this being an oral report in school? (:_(

It almost reminds me of the MicroMachines man and Comic book guy from the Simpsons crossing paths.

This guy just makes no sense.

He calls using people instead of puppets, "Pixellation"?! WTF, he really needs to do better research, it was like it was written by a 12 year old.
It is "stop-motion" animation itself, but the term "Pixilation" was what those like Norman McLaren used to refer to using the technique of animating live-action actors.

It really needed to be mentioned since it is very important to understand the problems that were overcome by the earliest animators to understand how to transfer movement to drawings as they were self-teaching themselves this fact.

Remember when the Irate Gamer tried to do something like a "history of early video games" series of videos?

This is what Enter's efforts on his "history of animation" videos kind of remind me of. The parallels are almost disturbing.

I wonder what his version of the Breakfast Rants are going to be.

@Piga Dgrifm: "Let's face it, Nickelodeon is ruined!"
It's been ruined the minute I became a 'grown-up'!

By the way, I hope some won't be angry with me, but I may be helping Enter indirectly on this. I bothered to show this vid to a friend of mine who happens to own physical film prints of several films Enter used in this and he has stated he is going to contact Enter on giving him info for his next video (as he's a big silent animation historian himself). This guy's cool though, but I'm sure Enter's going to speed through the 1910's like a breeze.
