This attachment is a study the EU parliament has requested that recommends what they should do in the short, medium, and long term regarding digital services; Notably it recommends a European Internet/Firewall that is similar to the Chinese Firewall.

Keep in mind that so far this is merely the recommendations some in the EU have about what they should do long term, but I think the implications are something worth discussing; Certainly it is something to keep an eye on to see if they do end up going in that direction long term.

Nothing is "just a study" in the EU, whether they'll go through with it or not depends on how involved one of the lazier EU countries has to be in the creation and maintenance of it, that's why I doubt they'll go through with the EU army for example because the lazy EU countries won't be willing to pull their weight, while with this it's easier to have the EU firewall be created somewhere like Germany and then just push the lazy EU countries to adopt it.

most Chinese live comfortable lives in their city apartments. They aren't bothered enough to use VPNs and by in large don't care about the outside world, they only care about interracting with their family and friends on their Chinese social media.
The firewall would be super effective because the average person won't be bothered enough to ever get a VPN
