It comes as a shock to no one that major film studios are cashing in not only on sequels but also on reboots/remakes and adaptations of past movies, novels, and comic books. This year had female Ghostbusters (we know how that turned out), another adaptation of Tarzan (anyone know how that did at the box office?), live-action version of Disney's The Jungle Book, The BFG (did that flop even though Spielberg directed it?), and upcoming remakes of Pete's Dragon and Ben-Hur (the latter of which is on the tail-end of the summer blockbuster season).
And it seems to be no end in sight. Disney will probably do more live-action versions of their animated classics. Beauty and the Beast is on its way (when will they do Mulan and Pocahontas?). Disney also decided to remake The Rocketeer with a black female lead (because it's2016 the current year), a "gritty" origin movie about Robin Hood, a movie about King Arthur, and another King Kong movie (since the studio behind that wants to setup the Godzilla vs. Kong remake). Anyone excited for this "new" stuff?
I'm waiting for the Jaws remake that has the characters of Brody, Hooper, and Quint in a transgender woman of color who not only has to deal with the shark but also the patriarchal mayor and city council.
