It comes as a shock to no one that major film studios are cashing in not only on sequels but also on reboots/remakes and adaptations of past movies, novels, and comic books. This year had female Ghostbusters (we know how that turned out), another adaptation of Tarzan (anyone know how that did at the box office?), live-action version of Disney's The Jungle Book, The BFG (did that flop even though Spielberg directed it?), and upcoming remakes of Pete's Dragon and Ben-Hur (the latter of which is on the tail-end of the summer blockbuster season).

And it seems to be no end in sight. Disney will probably do more live-action versions of their animated classics. Beauty and the Beast is on its way (when will they do Mulan and Pocahontas?). Disney also decided to remake The Rocketeer with a black female lead (because it's 2016 the current year), a "gritty" origin movie about Robin Hood, a movie about King Arthur, and another King Kong movie (since the studio behind that wants to setup the Godzilla vs. Kong remake). Anyone excited for this "new" stuff?

I'm waiting for the Jaws remake that has the characters of Brody, Hooper, and Quint in a transgender woman of color who not only has to deal with the shark but also the patriarchal mayor and city council.

A movie set in the what, 20's? 30's? Let me guess- the character will be mau-mau'd by a few token villans, but totally be accepted by everybody else.

I don't really see a point to remaking Pete's Dragon, the whole point was that the dragon didn't fit in in the real world. Making it a hyper-realistic CG-Abomination won't add anything to the story.

They've been making and remaking Robin Hood since film first came out. Hopefully this one won't go the gravelly "Christian Bale" voice that so many gritty remakes go with. Really the big trifecta of remakes outside of horror is Robin Hood, King Arthur, and Wizard of Oz. all three have had soooooo many adaptions.

Honestly, it'd be more interesting to see the original design adapted to CGI (and make it protofrealistic enough to not look cheap, but still cartoony enough to stand out [think Disney's recent CGI fare for what I'm referring to]).

Other than that, the only one I'm really interested in seeing is Kong (because it feels different enough from its predecessors while still feeling familiar). The others I don't give a shit about or will mock when they fall flat.

Also @The Nothingness, I just checked, The BFG's doing okay, and may or may not make its budget back (considering it's only three, nearly four weeks into release). Tarzan's in a similar boat, from what I can see too.

This is inherently flawed.
You can't have a big ol butt in tight clothes and a rocket jetpack. And if she doesn't have a big ol butt in tight clothes then you're making a character black and female wrong.

I generally don't care about remakes, I mean Hollywood pumps out bad movies all the time. They just want to make quick money on brand name alone, I think RedLetterMedia touched on this one time but I can't find the video.

One good remake is the 2004 Dawn of The Dead remake, I remember being bored by the old one and liking this one a lot. Could just be me though, I generally like horror movie remakes more than any other remake.

And who's involved in this you might ask? You guessed it, J.J. Abrams.
