So the subreddit /r/yiff and its corresponding Discord server went fucking nuts today. Apparently Sibe, who owns both the subreddit and was an administrator of the server, came in and started banning people because someone posted a Pepe emoji, which is a "hate symbol and coded white supremacy icon".

The previous mods had to make a new /r/yiff server because Sibe was banning anyone who said "pepe" or anything "racially coded". Here's the synopsis of events from the mods of the new server, trimmed and transcribed for your convenience:

This time, he found that we had a pepe emote on server, and went kind of on a crusade. Banning anyone who used the pepe, claiming it was alt-right symbolism and people that used it were fascists, alt-righters, racists, etc. Most of the staff remained at this point, though we couldn't really do anything. I argued against this in #staff chat best I could, but he's a stubborn fuck, eventually some other staff members chipped in.

People continued to be banned from here till the next event, for both posting pepes, arguing against Sibe, and generally just.. any opposition. At 3pm, our first staff ban got handed down, against Zazabar - for the uniniated, Zazabar is our bot programmer and keeps a lot of the backend and infrastructure we have for the server alive. Without him, we could NOT do as good a job as we did for as long as we did, he streamlined a lot of shit and improved our security for age checks in that we could actually individually kennel and check each member, track each members check permanently so we never have to check them again, and make sure after the checks, ID was deleted.

He was banned for asking if he had contingency plans for when the bot is removed, and if he understood how linked into the back end his bot and work was. I was banned shortly after, as I publicly stated that I could not do my job any more, as he had dismantled our bot and infrastructure. Over the next hour or so, we as a mod team with the help of some really helpful regulars, started migrating stuff over here. This server was created today, in reaction to everything happening.

the general strike is now done due to Aimee allegedly no longer working with Reddit, so there's logically no reason for them to have the subreddits locked.
