Me, personally...I'm more offended by being told lies. I might have what Chris would call a Smarmy Bullshit Threshold, and get bothered when someone exceeds that.

Maybe I'm too neurotypical to participate in this discussion. Apparently, I lack the proper kind of autism.

I'm not sure what this means, but yes, you're probably pretty thin-skinned if you can't stand constructive criticism. There are plenty of people who are not lolcows who don't like criticism - certain politicians come to mind

having someone tell you a truth about where you're lacking is like having them swat a dangerous bug off of the back of your head. If they don't do it or even tell you that it's there simply because they don't want to hurt you, they're a dick. If they just haul off and punch with all their might w no concern for you, they're an asshole. As long as the truth comes from a place of concern and caring, and they're telling it for the good of the person involved AND they're taking all care of your feelings WHENEVER possible, then it's okay.

Yes, having the bug swatted off is going to be unpleasant, but it needs to be done. But Chris views all unpleasant things as pure evil (the uncomfortable truth, effort, taking a risk on rejection etc...) so the dangerous bug remains, stinging the everloving shit out of him for all time.

If he's not even doing his own laundry, it's hard to imagine that he's going to seek treatment for the bent that Jackie pointed out that he had.

The whole Hurtful Truth Level, exceeding of, came in the discussion with Jackie where "she" told him quite bluntly what women look for in a casual hookup, and how he had none of those characteristics. The salient point of the discussion was that when Chris heard too much of what he knew perfectly well was true (e.g. her detailed descriptions of how fat he was), it came in his ears as "You have a huge gut" and was interpreted by his brain as "I hate you." In his autistic way, OPL was trying to say that she had exceeded social norms -- most of us know, or are, a person with one or more unfortunate features or characteristics, but society would hardly run well if we all went around going, "Hey, Jeff, how are you doing? Man, your nose is looking pretty big today. Okay, gotta go do those spreadsheets, see ya."

The point of the Jackie Saga as I see it, obviously not having been in it, was to hold a mirror to his inadequacies. They had discussed by that point that he couldn't do one pull-up, that he couldn't go a month without a particular type of vidya (notice he still owned and played a Wii after the smashing of the PS3), and that he was too incompetent or lazy to follow really clear and detailed instructions in making videos for Jackie -- e.g. in the Bollywood video, he couldn't even be arsed to steal one of Barb's lipsticks or use some tempera paint, and paint a dot on his forehead, even though that was specifically mentioned in the instructions. So the Hurtful Truth Level exchange was his Don Quixote moment (although he wouldn't even have fought the windmill, just flipped it off and run, but whatever) -- he admitted that he has to keep a barrier between himself and reality at all times to survive. Given his reality, though, that doesn't seem particularly weird.

Basically if you say anything truthful about Chris and it hurts his feel-bads then you've exceeded the Hurtful Truth Level...so basically any honest observation if Chris.

I always thought him calling it the "hurtful truth" level was Chris patronizing his troll girlfriends since the name suggests he's accepting their critiques as true. He really just wanted to say something to make them stop saying things he didn't like without the risk of pissing them off and losing his shot at getting laid.

When you tell the truth to Chris it hurts him, there's no increments the instant you tell Chris the truth his hurtfulness meter skyrockets to 11.

it sounds almost too coherent for a cwcism. he may have picked it up maybe in one of his prior therapy sessions. but he picked it out and twisted it to his standards of "i'm going to ignore what i am doing wrong and anything pointing that out will be ignored"

It's a useful get-out clause for when someone is critical of you and you don't want to listen. Chris being Chris, it happens often enough that he came up with a CWCism for it.

Everyone has a hurtful truth level. There is a difference when constructive criticism (i.e. saying someone has a personality defect they should change) and outright being mean (i.e. making fun of someone for having a big nose, different religion, anything they can't control). I do accept constructive criticism and actually welcome it. I do have my own annoying quirks and sometimes, I don't even realize I'm bothering someone. I feel better when I am told than if the other person boldface lies to me.

Chris views any criticism as being mean. He has excuses like blaming autism or anything else, so in his mind he can't help it when he can. Any offers of advice or help is trolling. He is very thin skinned, one of the most thin skinned people I've ever seen.

I guess -- because Chris sees everything as a vidya game -- he keeps track of "Hurtful Truth" as if it were a resource.
Observe the screenshot below. Notice the red meter at the bottom left....



Each hit of "Hurtful Truth" drains the Red "Butthurt Resistance" resource. When the "Butthurt Resistance" resource is depleted, this round of conversation is over, and his 40th Level Whinomancer has to "Crash Into Slumber" until the meter refills.
Notice also, that the Blue "Awesomesauce" meter is full, because he doesn't use any of the skills that draw from that resource.

Eh, the conversation that "hurtful truth level" came from was full of insults. Chris will take a lot of abuse from a potential galpal. Chris is a huge pussy and it takes awhile for him to grow a pair. But eventually, you might cross a line and get him to stand up to you.
