Outside of Warcraft i really cant think of any sort of strong cohesive and generally "unique" orcish set of cultures. They're moreso just an embodiment of destruction. the "warrior race" exemplified.

I've noticed for a long time that orcs are usually a hodgepodge of different "barbarian" cultures. I've been thinking about it and except in cases like WH40k where they're fungi and Tolkien where they're basically just an allegory for how industrialization turns people into tools or whatever, orcs are what you'd make if you combined all the worst traits that the Romans attributed to various Germanic, Gallic and Brittonic tribes and somehow made them even more psychopathic. I never got the impression that they're stand-ins for blacks or any other P(ieces)o(f)C(rap), in fact a lot of the "lore" that settings add to their orcs are merely superficial. We're gonna give them shamans so they can be like Native Americans... or something. One troop type they have is berserkers who are big orcs that are somehow even more unhinged than their kin so they become uncontrollable machines of destruction in battle, which is taken from Germanic tribes. We're gonna have them wear Zulu masks so they look cool and scary. It's all just superficial to make them seem even more like just some unthinking warrior race who live in huts made out of their own shit and can't create anything so they just use what they loot.

The best argument against the EC video is when they tell when it's okay to massacre people, which is if they have the wrong politics (With the examples of Nazis and Klansmen).
It's wrong on many levels:
1. It's outright sociopathic since killing people for beliefs is insane and illegal. Especially with Klansmen, who don't always kill nigros and can be just regular racists.
2. The definition of wrong politics is subjective as hell. Even with the nazi example, you don't kill "Ze Nazis" because they are nazis, you kill them because they are fighters of an enemy country. Unless EC is arguing that the population of Germany should be genocided it makes no sense.
3. As jlongbone noted, the entire argument falls apart if you have a person indoctrinated in those politics from an early age and didn't have a choice like the evil races.
4. It also falls apart from the other side, since you never go into an ork village to kill everyone but are always attacked first, you can always say that your attackers were people with wrong politics/worldview and thus you are justified in killing them (ie, good orks exist but you don't see them).

Their history videos are shit. If you want good background noise I recommend Voices of the Past. They narrate anything from Ancient Roman travel guides to diaries of common 19th century soldiers. There isn't even modern political shit.

Yeah, when history is told through a narrative I appreciate it being told in a way that's both put into historical context and is sympathetic to the protagonist. I.E; what HistoryTime/Voices of the Past does.

With ExtraCredits, they will portray many protagonists with outright contempt, Suleiman the Magnificent's story is told with overwhelming sympathy, while the First Crusaders are given a lot of contempt and ridicule. People can tell character driven stories how they want, but it's incredibly clear where ExtraCredits' biases lie.

His video on Columbus was absolute dogshit that made me stop listening to him. If he has such awful takes, then it's not worth watching entirely imo.

Yeah that Columbus one was trash but standard for current years anti-Columbus shilling. Didn't know that about K&G, their contents always seemed well produced and neutral to me. Enough sperging on history channels on YouTube though, that can be another thread.
