Chris is obviously cheap on many things. Of course most of his money would go to video games. But remember how he thinks its okay to take a date to McDonalds? I was wondering if he would be a good candidate for the show called Extreme Cheapskates since he would be cheap on clothing and everything else but games. What do you think?

I don't think his ideal McDonald's date is cheap so much as he's just used to eating fast food. He just has extremely limited experience with a meal that costs over seven dollars and didn't come out of a box.

Yeah, Chris is a creature of habit. If you're destined to be his true and honest sweetheart, then you wouldn't be so cruel as to expect him to do anything outside his comfort zone.

This show is for people who do things like, avoid showers to save money. Chris avoids showers because he's a lazy asshole.

I don't think that Chris would be a good fit for the show. He admitted many times in the Miyamoto and Jackie emails that he has "compuslive shoppiness, usually controllable." If Chris isn't blowing his tugboat on new vidya, he's either downloading games or buying toys.

Well, now makeup and women's clothing, too. :tomgirl:

What's the fanciest meal Chris has ever eaten? Do you think Borb ever made the attempt to take him out to a nice place? Would they even have done that without him? I get the impression that the whole family thought Country Cookin' was top-of-the-line.

It wouldn't surprise me if Chris has never sat at a table with a cloth napkin, or more than one fork.

Yeah, Chris' world view is quite limited and McDonalds is probably his definition of fine dining. "I can get a toy with my meals!"

Also, like others have mentioned, Chris isn't cheap. He's a shopaholic who is also poor. After spending his tugboat on vidya, McDonalds and microwavable food are probably all he can afford.

Depends on what you mean by "nice place." He's been to Chotchkie's-esque places. Although I don't know if I've been to a place with more than one fork. Maybe once or twice? But if I did, I don't remember it as being distinctive other than maybe just not being a chain restaurant.

If Chris were an extreme cheapskate, he'd actually have money and wouldn't end up broke by the end of the month.

This is actually kind of sad to me. Admittedly we haven't gone anywhere fancy but I have been dating someone for the past month and I make it a point to avoid major chains if I can. No matter how cheap I've ever been going on a date to a place like Taco Bell or McDonald's is crazy to me.

I dunno, on the Wallflower e-mails I remember she suggests that they eat at a Mexican Restaurant. Chris asks how much the meal would cost, and she says around 30 bucks, to which Chris replies "oh yeah sure, I can afford that".

Maybe he was just trying to impress her, but I don't think fast food and frozen meals are the only things he ever ate in his life. Like other things, it's just something that got stablished as CWC canon, so some people assume that's all he does.

While it isn't all he eats wasn't it him that threw out Taco Bell? He may not eat it all the time but it is where his mind wanders to the most.

i think the mcdoanld's date idea probably comes from him perpetually living with a high school frame of mind. his exposure to people dating probably came from the kids in high school hanging out there after school. like it isn't a proper date, but he saw guy and gals being all lovey dovey and probably thought that mcdonalds is the place for dates, not just kids hanging around. this theory could also explain how he views mcdonalds as a potential attraction location.

I think it's even a simpler concept than that. Chris likes McDonald's, ergo, Chris's woman will eat at the places he likes. I don't think he'd be unwilling to go somewhere else, but the idea that he should never crosses his mind.

Yeah, I think he'd be willing to go to other places (if it's suggested to him), but he'd never think about it on his own. Probably something to do with autism (he rarely goes anywhere he's not used to, so he wouldn't make that connection).

Though given his all-TV mental diet, I'm surprised he never picked up the idea of the stereotypical candlelight dinner in a vaguely continental restaurant, where the waiters bring out the food in covered dishes.

Chris likes familiar surroundings and familiar food, so I think the biggest barrier would be getting him to try something new. I'll be honest, I like my creature comforts when I eat, so when I'm going out to eat and it's gonna cost me £20 ($30) or upwards, I don't really feel like being experimental. I want to drop my money on something I know I'm gonna enjoy.

The closest I can think of was the Giant Penis comic where he and Ivy ate a chicken dinner, soda (in wine glasses) and nameless vegetables.

I seem to recall the Chandler family eating at a Chinese buffet at least once, due to Barb threatening to sue them after she got sick. It turns out it was colitus.

I wonder how Chris never gets tired of his diet. Doesn't he ever want to go out and try something from another culture? Go to a little Vietnamese or Turkish place, or even grab greasy fish and chips and a dark lager at a pub? But no, it's pretty much a rotating palette of McDonald's fifteen or so offerings, day in and day out.

And yeah, Chris's idea of a fancy dinner in the Giant Penis Comic is really depressing. When my wife and I got engaged, we celebrated by going out to a restaurant where entrees where $45 a pop, two glasses of champagne were $60, and men couldn't enter without a sports coat and tie. And it was totally worth it. But Chris's ideal wedding night dinner was something that you can get at Chili's for $15.
